If the 49ers are looking to roll over the most cap space they can, I think Clowney will bring the most bang for the buck. I think they can sign him for less than half of what it will take to sign Bosa.Only 28 days until rookies report and 35 days for the vets
ReplyDeleteIMHO no! If the 9ers sign anyone, it will be after the 2nd or 3rd preseason game and they've taken a good look at players already on the roster.
ReplyDeleteIf the 9ers sign a player, IMO, it would be CB Rasul Douglas. He fits
Morris defensive scheme, he excels in zone coverage with off-ball responsibilities. At 6'2 X 200 pounds, he's a big, physical cornerback who's willing and capable of setting the edge and limiting yards after catch. If the 9ers can sign him for $7 -$8 Mil he fits the budget.
A 2nd player is Stefon Diggs. If there are WR injuries, Diggs fits
fShanahan's WR role as an elite separator against both man and zone coverage. Diggs still remains a dangerous run-after-catch (RAC) threat, posting consecutive years with over 300+ YAC
If our young dline players can show improvement, I would pass on any FA dline help.
ReplyDeleteBut if the dline faulters, J. Bosa makes sense. I like Clowney, but he's never established himself as a game changer type player. The 49ers had their Clowney 2.0 in Chase Young a few years ago that never played up to his potential. At this point, I'd wait to see how the current young players are performing and if need be, make a decision at the trade deadline.
It all depends on how long it takes for M. Williams to return to 100%. They may need a 3 down starting level DE for the first 3 to 6 games. Compare Bosa's stats to Clowneys stats for the last 3 seasons you might be surprised and as they say the best ability is availability. Clowney stays healthy, Bosa not so much
DeleteNo argument about J. Bosa' injuries. The 49ers re-signed Sam Okuayinonu and picked up Osa Odighizuwa from the Boys. Hopefully they can hold the line until Mikell is ready to take the lions share of the snaps. I wouldn't be surprised to see Romollo do some light work as well. If Kamara can come close to mimicking what he did in college, who knows?
ReplyDeleteTC is going to be an interesting event.
I think Weights will be a 3rd down specialist in year 1. Kamara is a intriguing player. He kind of reminds me of another UDFA pass rusher from the Big 10 Marcus Rush
DeleteI think White will start at strong side DE and Okuayinonu at weakside.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Morris will get cart blanche at the jump or slowly integrate his system.
