  1. REPORT: Caleb Downs was flagged this week with a partially torn meniscus. There is also concern about a possible “degenerative ACL.”

  2. Iowa C Logan Jones in the last 6 months:

    ➡️ Unanimous All-American
    ➡️ First-Team All-American
    ➡️ Rimington Trophy
    ➡️ 4.90 40-yard dash
    ➡️ 32’’ vertical
    ➡️ 9’2” broad jump

Another Iowa OL on the cusp of NFL stardom 💪

  3. Boston College LT Jude Bowry's tape against TJ Parker showed a lot. Quick off the snap, strong punch, vice grip, played with an edge. Little bit of a short setter but that can be rectified.

  4. Texans releasing Jimmy Ward per Schefter.

    1. I didn’t even know Jimmy Ward was on the Texans. Haven’t heard his name in quite some time

    2. Got arrested for assault late last year.

    3. Wild. Always seemed like a blue collar kind of guy, imo.

  5. Michigan LB/EDGE Jaishawn Barham 6-foot-3, 240 could be on Morris' radar:

Twitchy, versatile chess piece with experience as an off-ball LB and Edge defender. Fluid athlete in space; drops into coverage with relative ease and physically reroutes receivers. Brings the fight to the run game with violence on contact and good edge-setting technique. Utilized as an on the ball Sam in Odd fronts, or Strongside DE vs. 12 personnel (heavier groupings) at the POA. Raw pass-rush plan, inconsistent eye and run-fit discipline as an off-ball LB, but his physical tools and positionless utility offer massive sub-package upside.

    1. Razor,
Has Morris, since being signed as the 9ers DC gone on the record about what kind of D he will be running?

      Delete
    2. Not that I'm aware of OldCoach.

    3. Things we know:
Morris is flexible in his fronts.
Morris likes to blitz at a high rate
Morris used LB's to blitz in Atlanta
Likely looking for a coverage FS with speed in the draft to shore up coverages

      Delete
    4. Base front matters little in todays game.
For every down a team is in base they are in a subpackage 3 times.
The only thing that is likely to change is more 5 man fronts which SF was kind of started introducing last year. This would be in nickel/penny defenses, which I would guess would allow SF to add a lighter speedster to put next to Mykell.

  6. Southeastern Louisiana DT Kaleb Proctor
going from 275 at Senior Bowl to 291 at NFL Combine is big boy eating

    Southland Conference Player of Year:
    43 tkls, 13 TFL, & 9 sacks

    40 4.79
    Vert 33
    Broad 9-05
    Arm 33

4th fastest top speed of last 4 years

    1. I think in the 4th Round Proctor would fit like a glove in Givens' role as their 3t penetrator.

  7. Athletically, Penn State TE Khalil Dinkins (6-4 1/4, 251) is good at everything, great at nothing. No holes, solid everywhere

    On field, kick ass blocker💰

    1.69 10
    4.72 40
    32.5 Vert
    9-11 Broad
    4.33 Shuttle
    Bench 25 ⭐️

  8. Jordan Meredith is an interesting F/A iOL that Pete Carroll had playing out of position at Center. I think he played really well at OG. Something to keep an eye on with the Raiders on whether or not they tender him.

  9. Too much speed is .. usually.. or can be a hinderance in route running precision. The faster the player the more limited his route tree usually is. Speed is necessary, but technique, and route running savvy is more desirable. Somewhere Al Davis is rolling over in his grave. 🪦

    ReplyDelete
  10. Jerry Rice reportedly ran 4.6, 40. But his playing speed was much faster. I'll never forget him taking a 10 yrd pass and turning up field running full speed with no one chasing him during training camp in Rocklin.

  11. Devin Moore (6’3 198) Florida

    + Press-man coverage
    + 81.5 coverage grade in 2025
    + 81.8 run defense grade in 2025
    + 5.3% missed tackle rate in 2024
+ Good athlete for his size
    + Physical in run support
+ Ball skills (5 career interceptions)
+ Ball tracking down the field

    - Extensive injury history and 2025 was the first full season he played during his four seasons at Florida
    - Limited experience with only about 600 snaps prior to 2025
    - Lacks elite straight-line speed (4.5 40-yard dash)

    Draft projection: 3rd/4th round

  12. Scouts aren't bothered by Mesidor's age per Jordan Reid.

    ReplyDelete
  13. According to Albert Breer, free agent center Tyler Linderbaum is looking for $25 million per season.

Those of you that advocate for Linderbaum, do you really believe this dude is worth $21M dollars more than Jake Brendel? I sure don't.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Brendel next contract will be far greater than his current one. Niners Oline which includes Williams isn't tough enough against elite defenses. Anyhow my focus and hope are once again a defensive draft. The offense will get better just by the defense getting better. An elite defense makes the current Oline acceptable.

      Delete
    2. Brendel could be a candidate for a 3-year extension. Got to believe if they want to do that, he'd give them a team friendly deal like McKivitz did.

      Delete
    3. 100%- get a LT that can play LG in the interim...... re-work Williams deal but cover their ass. Let's also not forget that Puni wasn't all that great last year- hopefully, due to injury.

      Delete
    4. Blue chip players are worth paying blue chip money.

      Delete
    5. We're doing fine with a $4M dollar green chip at Center and they've shown they can win that way. Blue chips at LT, QB, DE and LB are much more consequential.

      Delete
    6. No disagreement there. My take on this has always been about future team planning. Brendel probably doesn't have much longer.

      Delete
    7. And to finish that thought - blue chip players in their prime at a position you value don't come available in FA every year.

      Delete
    8. When they do, they're outrageously expensive. Luckily, we're not in a situation like the Bears find themselves...desperation.

      Delete
    9. It's "outrageously" expensive... for a year. But then the market is reset and the other top guys at the position get paid commensurately.

And it's not like the 49ers have gotten a lot of home town discounts negotiating deals for their own blue chip players. They've reset the market at TE, LB, LT and Edge.

      Delete
    10. Resetting a future HOF TE, LB and LT can't be helped. Are you saying Linderbaum is THAT guy?

Market value doesn't always equate to team value. Case in point, the WR market is overvalued. The difference is they come out of college ready to play for the most part whereas the OL doesn't. Will we ever pay top market value for a WR ever again? Not if we're smart.

      Delete
    11. Yep, I am. 4 years, 3x Pro Bowler, only turning 26 this year. Elite athlete to go with good technician. He'll end up one of the best centers.

      Delete
    12. Ravens would be making a mistake then not paying him, no?

      Delete
    13. Imo, yes.

Though I also think he'd be better in a zone heavy scheme, rather than the gap heavy scheme he's been in at the Ravens. Perfect fit for a Shanahan system.

  14. Jonathan Geeenard is available for trade per Schefter.

  15. 49ers officially announce Jon Weeks' one-year contract. They're also trying to work out deals with P Thomas Morstead and K Eddy Pineiro. ... Team also has tendered T Austen Pleasants, an exclusive rights free agent.

  16. Browns are releasing OT Cornelius Lucas.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bears Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman has informed the team that he is retiring from the NFL at age 27. Dalman left Stanford in 2021, and after four seasons in Atlanta and one in Chicago, he has made the sudden and surprising decision to retire.😱

    ReplyDelete
  18. The more I think about what the 49ers defense will look like this year the more I think we'll see a lot of 5-man fronts on early downs. Just makes the most sense with their roster. It allows Mykel to play more like a 3-4 DE, which he is better suited to.

Question then becomes what type of Edge/ Sam/ Star do they go for next to him?

    1. I think Morris will want an OLB that is adept at blitzing and dropping into coverage.

      Delete
    2. Would seem the logical choice.

  19. Hearing Trent Williams talk about Shanahan I can't imagine him ever playing for anyone else again. Any current difficulties in contract negotiations will get sorted.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Never doubted. Likely Williams has a spare bedroom at Mike's house given he's like family.

      Delete
  20. I know a lot of people have talked about KC Concepcion, Denzel Boston and Chris Bell as possible picks at #27, but the two WRs I can see Shanahan actually wanting and picking there are Omar Cooper Jr and Germie Bernard. Just look like Shanahan type WRs.

A day 3 DT I can see Kocurek banging the table for is DaMonte Capehart.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yea, Capehart to me is a great value on day 3.

As for Cooper, I've liked him over Sarratt but Cooper's limited route tree and lack of technique give me pause. Is he really a good fit with Purdy or would the WR that has a full route tree and is technically sound a better fit?

      Delete
    2. Deebo ran a limited route trees as well. I don't think they'll hold that against him too much. The way he moves, however, I think they'll really like.

      Delete
    3. Denzel Boston and Cooper are on the board, who is GM Scooter taking?

      Delete
    4. Boston. But I suspect Shanahan might go Cooper.

      Delete
    5. Me Boston as well. Shanahan might if he had Jimmy G? Maybe not with Purdy is my train of thought.

      Delete
    6. I think he'll like the way Cooper and Bernard move more than Boston. Boston obviously fluid for a guy his size, but Cooper and Bernard have that easy speed and acceleration in their routes where they get on DBs quick and look completely under control at close to full speed, allowing them to change direction and catch the ball at pace.

      Delete
    7. Shanahan will likely have an opportunity to draft Cooper but probably not Boston.

      Delete
    8. Bernard is a guy I love on tape.
He reminds me a lot of a young Deebo... back when he could run routes. He's great after the catch thought not Deebo level, and runs pretty good routes but has the occasional drop. He's a more willing blocker as well.

      Delete
    9. It wouldn't shock me if the 49ers took Bernard at 27. I agree the tape looks good.

I do worry the advanced receiving metrics (yards per route run, reception share, share of team yards, breakout age) suggest he's unlikely to prove worthy of that high a pick. But it wouldn't be the first time they take a WR high that is generally expected to go quite a bit lower and whose advanced receiving metrics are below desired thresholds.

  21. The Chargers plan to release guard Mekhi Becton in the coming days, per source. The move saves Los Angeles $9.7 million on the cap.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No interest from sf I'd imagine. He doesn't have the necessary movement skills.

      Delete
    2. How much do you think the 49ers are willing to spend at LG? I'm going to say no more than $8M.
