  1. Changes to the 9ers Defense Raheem Morris could make?
    1) With Atlanta and LA Rams, Morris utilized a "Star" position (a hybrid nickel cornerback/safety. In 2022, the Rams utilized 4-man fronts with only 1 LB (Jalen Ramsey) by replacing the 2d LB with a "Star" or "big nickel" DB) on over 60% of plays.
NFL defenses like those run by Morris, the "Star" alignment is essentially the personnel used in nickel packages. teams in this coaching tree (Fangio/Staley/Morris) utilize nickel or dime personnel on 70% to 80% of defensive snaps to combat modern passing offenses.
    2) Key advantages of the STAR subpackage in Morris's defense allows for a 3-4 base that can shift into various four-down fronts, providing the ability to disguise blitzes and pressure packages, often using simulated pressure where defensive backs or linebackers rush while edge rushers drop into coverage.
The STAR position with a versatile defender with both coverage skills and linebacker-like hitting power, allows the defense to remain stout against the run while better defending against pass-heavy offenses.

Under Morris and DC Jimmy Lake, the Falcons transitioned to a base 3-4 but remained "multiple," frequently walking linebackers down to the line or using slot-heavy alignments. For instance, versatile defenders like Kaden Elliss were used in the slot for 49 snaps and walked up to the line 183 times in 2025 to simulate these hybrid looks.

    1. Harold Perkins Jr and Devan Boykin. Great fits.

    2. Scooter Yea, I Agree. Perkins is a burner. (40 = 4.45s). Converted from edge to LB his soph year. A replacement for Martin should concussion force retirement. Fits Morris' STAR position (off-ball LB, rushing the QB from edge, and NB / slot. I have him in mid 3rd Rd....Where do you see him being drafted?
Devan Boykin. Hadn't paid much attention to him until watching college playoffs. Smaller than typical SS prospects. Capable of playing FS, SS, nickel and with a high % of snaps at slot. Checks all the boxes for STAR. A day 3 draft pick, but no idea where? Probably get a better feel for him after the combine?
Where do you have him being drafted?

    3. Perkins Jr I expect to go around the 3rd round, but with a pretty wide range (2-4). Very athletic, but undersized for a LB and the knee injury as a junior meant his last two college seasons weren't as impressive as his FR and SO years. He won't be for everyone, but for the right scheme I think some teams could rate him highly.

Boykin is likely a day 3 guy in a congested secondary group, but I also think he'll go higher than currently being projected. I think round 4-5. He's being slept on largely because he also had a knee injury in 2023 and basically missed 2024 which pushed him off the radar of scouts. But he was fantastic for Indiana this season.

  2. Keagen Trost (6’4 316) Missouri

+ Getting to and sealing off defenders at the second level
    + Strike timing
+ Has taken snap at every spot on the offensive line except for center
+ Over 2,700 career snaps played
    + Maintains good pad level
+ 91.4 run block grade and an 85.4 pass blocking grade in 2025

    - 4 penalties in 2025
    - Sixth-year senior
    - Lacks ideal foot speed and athleticism to stick at tackle

    Draft projection: 4th/5th round

    1. I've got a strong feeling that the 49ers will be adding 1-2 OL, a LB and a Safety in rounds 3-5.

    2. Same. Too bad there wasn't a parlay out there to make some money on it.

I'd like to see the 9ers draft a Center that's physically capable of overpowering the Seahawks' D-line. The last 9ers center that had that kind of raw, overpowering physicality and elite pedigree was Alex Mack.
      * Bryce Foster: 6'5" X 310–330 lb center for Kansas. Experienced athletic Center projected as a 2026 NFL draft prospect (I have him Rd #6). A former elite high school shot-putter. Foster excels in run blocking, bringing immense strength, and has shown steady improvement in pass protection. IMO, a project that will take a year of coaching
      before he's ready to start.
      * Elite Strength & Power: Strong anchor, capable of dominating defenders in the run game and in tight spaces.
      * Athleticism: Exceptional mover for his size, effective as a puller and getting to the second level.
      * Experience: Veteran with 40+ career starts, including SEC and Big 12 experience.
      * Pass Pro Improvement: Solidified his pass blocking, allowing zero sacks in 352 snaps during the 2024 season.
      * Fits Shanahans' ZBS:

    4. I'd like to see them get that guy in FA - his name is Tyler Linderbaum.

    5. Scooter
Yea, me too! But after the Ravens' declined his 5th year option, a fully guaranteed $23.4 million for 2026, will the 9ers spend what it'll take to sign him?
Spotrac lists his Market Value at $17 - $18 Mil AAV over 4 years (totaling roughly $70.9 million to $72 million).

      Delete
    6. Unfortunately I highly doubt he'll be a 49er, for a variety of reasons, but imo he should be priority #1.

  3. Blake Miller (6’6 315) Clemson OT

    + 4-year starter
    + Reported 35” arm length
    + Grip strength
+ Connecting with his target in space
+ Durability with over 3,600 snaps
    + 83.5 pass blocking grade in 2025
    + 73.3 run block grade
+ Some versatility with over 100 snaps at left tackle in 2024

    - 22 career penalties
    - Has allowed 79 career pressures (did have his best season by allowing just 14 of them in 2025)
    - Inconsistent pad level

    Draft projection: Day 2

  4. TJ Parker -Edge -Clemson
    6’3-265

    ➕3 Year Starter
    ➕41.5 Career TFLs
    ➕21.5 Career Sacks
    ➕B2B 40+ pressure season

➖Over reliance on bullrush (long arm)
➖Secondary moves need to be developed
➖Play strength may be a concern

Overall - Parker is a young (turned 21 in Sept) Edge with a ton of upside. Nice pass rush base with room to develop. He’s an active participant in the run game that will improve with NFL coaching. Scouts will see the 2024 tape and come away impressed.

    Draft Proj: Round 1-2
    Pro Comp: Sam Hubbard

  5. Parker is a player I like. There's definitely some refining in his game that needs some coaching, but the potential to be a big contributer is there.
I would like to see Concepcion with the first pick. But at the same time, there are WRs like Watson and Cowing that could be healthy enough to make some noise in 2026.

  6. Aamil Wagner (6’5 302) Notre Dame OT

+ Multi-sport athlete in high school
+ Passing off stunts and twists
    + Almost 35” arm length
    + 79.4 pass blocking grade in 2025
    + Just 7 pressures allowed in 2025
+ Effectively uses his length to keep defenders out of his chest
    + Blocking on the move

    - Bit light and could add more weight to his frame for the next level
    - High-cut frame
    - Allowed 29 pressures in 2024
    - 61.9 run block grade in 2025

    Draft projection: 3rd/4th round

    ReplyDelete
  7. AES
The problem with drafting TJ Parker, is: A) Will he still be on the
board when the 9er draft first Rd #27. B) Will they have to trade up a couple of spots to get him? C) If the 9ers do draft him, what do they do with Mykel Williams?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Austin Barber (6’7 315) Florida OT

    + Grip strength
    + Finishing through the whistle
    + 90.0 run blocking grade in 2025
+ Athleticism as a former high school basketball player
    + Over 2,700 snaps played
+ Left and right tackle versatility
    + Effective blocking in space

    - 66.7 pass blocking grade in 2025
    - Difficulty with speed rushers like Cashius Howell (0.0 pass blocking grade against Texas A&M)
    - 29 career penalties

    Draft projection: 3rd/4th round

  9. Razor, thoughts on Keagen Trost? Looks like a guy the 49ers will like to me.

    Replies
    1. Agreed. Missouri brought him in to replace Membou at RT. I think he was PFF’s highest-graded offensive lineman in the SEC this season.

      Delete
    2. My favorite thing about Trost is he's a 7th year senior and turns 25 in April.😂

      Delete
    3. Yeah, had a lot of injuries. He'll go pretty late I think, but could be an interesting pick up.

    4. A player that caught my eye when looking at some of Missouri's games was Chris McClellan. Thoughts?

      Delete
    5. Good player. A little inconsistent, but has some nice splash plays. Good tools to work with. Also like his interviews - seems smart and someone that will learn.

      Delete
    6. Combine might inflate his stock. As it stands on tape I got him in that 3/4 range.

  10. Rookie James Pearce Jr. was arrested Saturday in Florida on domestic violence charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated stalking, per court records. If memory serves me, he had character concerns entering the draft.

    1. Remember when I said he sounded like a psychopath in his combine presser...? He's not right in the head.

    2. Yea, I'm just glad we learned our lesson with Foster and haven't made the same mistake since.

  11. D’Angelo Ponds’ production score is the 6th highest ever scored among NFL CBs since 2015.

    The only guys above him:
    ➖Marshon Lattimore
    ➖Brian Branch
    ➖Desmond King
    ➖Byron Murphy Jr.
    ➖Eric Rowe

    1. CB is low key a possibility for the 49ers early in the draft this year. I really like Ponds.

  12. Explosive pass rushing DT's:

    • Peter Woods, Clemson
    • Caleb Banks, Florida
    • Gracen Halton, Oklahoma
    • Zane Durant, Penn State
    • Tyler Onyedim, Texas A&M
    • Kaleb Proctor, SE Louisiana
    • Martez Poynter, Toledo
