Nick Sirianni & Jalen Hurts at home in the playoffs:
• 5–0 record
• Avg score: 35–14
• 0 turnovers forced
• 14 takeaways
• Trailed for just 5:43 total across 5 games.
Per NextGenStats, Purdy completed 72.6% of his passes on in-breaking routes (6th best). The Eagles have allowed 51.9% completion on in-breaking routes, the lowest mark in 10 seasons of NGS data.
Niners are #2 in the NFL in points scored on the road this season (258). They're also #4 in point differential on the road (+58). They had the 2nd-most road wins out of any team in the NFL, at 7-2 (only SEA and NE had more).
Eagles giving up nearly 5 yards per carry (4.74) on outside zone runs this season. Eagles blitz at the third-lowest rate in the NFL, only 18.1% of the time. They also run light boxes at the highest-rate in the NFL, over 60% of the time. The Niners are going to have to find a way to run against light boxes and protect against 4-man rushes on Sunday. Feels like Shanahan is going to need 30+ rushing attempts to have a chance in this game. I like the 49ers to upset the Eagles 21-20. Go Niners!
49ers inactives:
WR Ricky Pearsall (knee)
LB Dee Winters (ankle)
LB Luke Gifford (quad)
RB Isaac Guerendo
NCB Chase Lucas
DT Kevin Givens
WR Jordan Watkins

I'm with you on a 49ers upset today. The miracle season continues.
ReplyDeleteMind says Eagles two-score win.
ReplyDeleteHeart says 3-pt win. Go Niners 27-24!
No Lane Johnson today fellas.
ReplyDeleteNo Ricky Pearsall today.
ReplyDeleteThe 49ers must draft or sign a WR that can stay on the field. You know, a guy like Jauan Jennings.
Delete🤣
DeleteWithout Pearsall, I hope they choose to use more 22 and 13 personnel today. Especially if it stays windy. Get the run game going and also make use of having a RB you can split out as a WR.
DeleteFOR THE 9ERS, WINNING ALL COMES DOWN TO:
ReplyDelete1) Can the 9ers defense keep the Eagles offense under 30 points?
IMO, only if Saleh's game plan can slow down Hurts and the Eagles
passing attack! IF the 9ers D can force a couple of turnovers!
2) Can BP and the 9ers offense score more than the Eagles?
Yes, if the O-line can control the LOS so CMC can scores a TD running the ball, both Kittle and JJ score a TD, BP can get a couple of first downs using his feet and NO turnovers.
The Eagles EPA per play is +.07 with Lane Johnson versus -.04 when he's off the field. Their DVOA drops from +6.8 percent to -6.5 percent.👀
ReplyDeleteI just hope they play (and coach) free and to win today, and not tight/ trying not to lose. Let it rip. They're the underdogs, no weight of expectation.
ReplyDeleteScooter, well said.
DeleteShanny has a tendency to play not to lose against certain co-ordinaters/defenses.
I hope they put up 21 in the first half and have Philly scrambling during halftime
Wonder if Kyle is going to employ play action on first downs. The options are limited with a run game that cannot open holes and receivers who cannot separate from man coverage. Need to come out guns blazing. Go Niners!
ReplyDeleteNo Williams no OZ last week. Expect plenty OZ runs today with Williams.
DeleteNo Williams no OZ last week. Expect plenty OZ runs today with Williams.
DeleteThink that Fangio will key in for those OZ runs?
DeleteHaving Trent back could be huge. They will need a good outside zone run game to win in mho. On the other side, we need to slow their run game. Their are just so many variables but I think a close game either way.
ReplyDeleteNo Pearsal almost guarentees a loss for me. Im guessing philly by 14. Id shocked and thrilled if they somehow won.
ReplyDeleteI'm just hoping for a solid offensive showing.
What a start WOOHOOO!!!
ReplyDeleteAggressive start, love to see it!
ReplyDeleteWell the same 49ers defense has showed up as well.
ReplyDeleteStay aggressive on offense. Defense will get some stops during the game. They'll have a chance
DeleteThat was about as bad a drive as possible without a turnover. 3rd down pass by Purdy can't have his WR having to come back short of the sticks to grab it.
ReplyDeleteNice work D! Sam O and Upton, great back to back plays!
ReplyDeleteYeah, the D stepped up there. I have a feeling they are going to need to do that a lot today.
ReplyDeleteSF is spot dropping a lot... Philly should have a lot of success over the middle of the field if that continues.
ReplyDeleteYeah, making it too easy for them on that drive. Also not loving how the run D is looking, again. Offense needs to step up.
DeleteAgreed this is about what I expected. You cant get dominated on both Lines of Scrimmage and expect to win many games.
DeleteIf the offense doesn't step up this game will be a blowout.
ReplyDeleteFFS. That doesn't look good for Kittle.
ReplyDeleteif that,s an ACL add TE to the list of needs. If thats the case I would have rather missed the playoffs altogether.
ReplyDeleteHe grabbed his ankle.
DeleteLooked more lower leg/ Achilles to me. If it's Achilles, same principle applies - he won't be back for much of 2026 if any.
DeleteLooks like the ankle.
DeleteI'm hearing it's Achilles. Awful.
DeleteAs you said above its the same deal. Just a brutal year. That will hurt this team into next year and essentially means this will be a 2 year rebuild at the least.
DeleteWhat did the 49ers ever do to make the football god's so angry? lol.
ReplyDeleteBut, it ain't over until it's over.
No pasa rush has been the 49ers albatross.
ReplyDeletePlus poor run D since Mykel went down. Bad combo.
DeleteI know Jennings is tired, but the lack of urgency to get back onside their was inexcusable.
ReplyDelete"#49ers WR coach Leonard Hankerson was reeming Kendrick Bourne and Jauan Jennings on the sideline.
DeleteBourne didn’t get set costing a timeout.
Jennings jogged back and into position allowing more than 11 seconds to run off the play clock after the Tonges 1st down."
Completely agree. This is how you win or lose big games, at the margins. That was losing mentality by the two WRs.
Jennings should know better. I agree, this is inexcusable.
Delete11 seconds could give you 2 more shots. From a vet like Jennings you expect better.
DeleteIt sucks when you’re missing so many of you starters.
ReplyDeleteGood stop the defense and Skyy Moore thanks them with a fair catch inside the 5 lol
ReplyDeleteThey have to get better at not using their time-outs to early in games.
ReplyDeleteUrgh. Not sure what Purdy was seeing/ thinking there.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can guess is he struggles to see with pressure in his face. But he needs to rip that.
DeleteProbably right Shoup. I think the pressure made him nervous to step into the throw to Jennings. But to go off that and then try to thread it to Moore was a bit of a panic move it looked to me.
DeleteYeah, I think he is a bit shook up.
DeleteHe is a bit of a momentum guy imo, and if he doesnt get a rhythm he tends to press and get sped up.
Daaaaannnng!
ReplyDeletePurdy is looking a bit shook right now.
ReplyDeleteIs Saleh the best DC in the NFL? I Know he is going to get another HC job but man he can he coordinate a defense. He is working with 3 LBs today. 2 that were signed signed off the street.
ReplyDeleteNo. But he is doing well... but I think a lot of that is because philly has not committed to the run.
DeleteNote. I do think he is very good probably top 5 but I also think he will be back
DeleteWho does more with less? Fangio has an all-star team.
DeleteDefense has really stepped it up since the first few drives. Doing an excellent job creating negative plays, particularly stuffing the run.
ReplyDeleteThat's the way lads!
ReplyDeleteWow! Unreal that we have the lead after all that!
ReplyDeleteShanahan's all in with a JJ trick play to CMC! Jennings showing his old High School QB play....
ReplyDeleteWow! We're leading.
ReplyDeleteBP throws an INT! That's the last thing the 9ers needed.
ReplyDeleteTerrible, terrible call
ReplyDeleteYou can't throw Ints in a close game like this, especially in a playoff game.
ReplyDeleteYeah, hate to say it, but if the 49ers lose this one Purdy's mistakes will be a big part of why.
DeleteI have to disagree. I feel it's on Kyle for calling the same play as if Kittle was playing -- Tonges clearly does not have the speed to run that route to beat his man in coverage.
DeletePurdy doesn't need to throw it.
DeleteYeah! Great work by Purdy there. C'mon defense, close it out
ReplyDeleteBig respect to Purdy for possibly being the only QB that doesn't let an Int mess up his head.
ReplyDeleteYou beauty! Onto the Seahawks!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing season this has been.
The miracle season continues!
ReplyDeleteWhat a win! Hats off to the coaches and the players. Very definition of playing your heart out.
ReplyDeleteRobert Saleh is not coming back after that performance is he? What a defensive performance!
We owe Seattle for last week.
ReplyDeleteYeah. We have like 0.1% chance with Kittle out. But can't count this team out. I still can't believe we won.
DeleteUsually the best 4 teams in the Conference play in the Divisional round.... brutal that 3 of the 4 top teams in the NFC are from the WEST.
Just go and play with same effort...can't ask for anything more from these guys!
