The moment we've all been waiting for has arrived. Time to see if our rebuilt DL and new DC can stop the Seahawks running game. I expect both teams plan to establish their run games with 30+ runs being the objective, and that would include long handoffs. Whichever team is able to do that will win the football game. It's really that simple. I'll take the Niners to win, 27-10.
Seahawks WR Jake Bobo (concussion), LB Uchenna Nwosu (knee) and WR Dareke Young (hamstring) all are ruled out.
Source: Marques Sigle will start today for the 49ers, making him the first rookie to start at safety in Week 1 for the team since Eric Reid in 2013.
49ers inactives: Jordan James Jordan Watkins Drew Moss Austen Pleasants Robert Beal Jr. Jordan Jefferson Nick Martin
I believe you to be correct in your statement, who can run and who can stop the run will win this game. Purdy has never lost up in Seattle. 24-13 Niners.
ReplyDeleteI see this as a glorified preseason game because veterans did not play in the preseason. This will be a game of attrition won by the team that's less rusty. If it comes down to a field-goal, Seattle.
ReplyDeleteWith the change in camp schedule (2011) and lack of depth because of the cap forcing coaches to focus more on health than preparation, the first 3 weeks of the season have become an extension of TC. The quality of play early in the season has become miserable. I think this will effect the 49ers more than the average team because of their dependence on youth. Regardless GO 9ERSs
DeleteAbove comment is mine
Delete31-12 49ers
ReplyDeleteSigle is starting at safety.
ReplyDeleteUC,
DeleteThat's ambitious, but it would be nice. I just don't want this game to come down to Moody's leg.
Moody's leg - totally agree.
DeleteSorry, UC. My reply was meant for diptown.
DeleteNP
DeleteI think we will win a one-score game. Go Niners 31-28
ReplyDeleteAs long as there are no significant injuries, I will take any outcome. Looking forward to see the DLine and WR play.
As anticipated we're going with 9 active DL.
ReplyDeleteLet's go!!
ReplyDeleteIt's time...
ReplyDeleteJust what the Dr ordered: Score early and take Seahag fans out of the game.....
ReplyDeleteRun D is not looking good.
ReplyDeleteYup. The frontline is looking reminiscent to last years D. Young players will get better as the season progresses.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that players like Warner, Trent, and Kittle that were bubble wrapped in preseason are the guys getting dinged up.
ReplyDeleteWell AES, Moody demons are still there.
ReplyDeleteAmateurish. Need someone else for sure.
ReplyDeleteUC,
ReplyDeleteShanahan's face said it all. Moody may be cleaning out his locker tomorrow if the 49ers lose in a close game.
Moody has had more than enough chances. Enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteREPORTER: "Aren't you concerned about JAKE MOODY?"
ReplyDeleteKYLE SHANAHAN: "I thought JAKE MOODY had one of the greatest kicking games I've ever seen (missed a chip shot, and almost missed another one) last week VS the Raiders!"
SANE 49ERS FANS: "Who are you trying to kid, Kyle? Do you think we are that stupid?"
KYLE: "Yes, obviously! Haven't you figured that out yet? I despise the fans!"
ME: "That's why you will NEVER win a Super Bowl!"
Couldn't have said it better.
DeleteIn all of my years I have never seen such a smart X's & O's guy with such little COMMON SENSE! Mind boggling how this guy even makes it through the offseason!
ReplyDeleteWill they use Moody again?
ReplyDeleteSpecial teams......Death by a 1000 cuts... killing me softly. This is such a winnable division game!
ReplyDeleteI actually dont blame Moody on this one. This was on the poor blocking. But Moody could very well be guilty by association. Moody is too much of a liability to stay on the team.
ReplyDeleteThis game is actually closer than I expected so far...
ReplyDeleteThe D has settled in nicely so far if I dont speak too soon. I actually have some hope for the season as I thought Seattle would handle us completely today. Thinking the O would struggle mightily and the D would as well early on then really uptick around week 3.
ReplyDeleteGo Niners! Division games are always close.... What a game!
ReplyDeleteHave high hopes for the D and Pearsall this year. Special Teams tried to lose it....but Purdy and Bosa said 'Nuh-uh'.
Sometimes a little luck goes on long way. Purdy's endzone pass to Tonges was a dangerous up for grabs one, but it worked.
ReplyDeleteIt was ugly (Moody), but a win is a win.....1 down, 16 to go!
ReplyDeleteI'll take the win, but the 49ers have a lot to work on.
ReplyDelete- Purdy needs to force less passes
- OL continues to be up and down (more down than up),
- Dumb penalties need to be cleaned up
- Can't leave points on the field
-STs must get better
- Moody needs to go
Apparently "No Question" that Moody will continue with the team..... as per Kyle.
DeleteThe positive outlook for ST is that this is rock bottom and there is nowhere to go, but Up.
cubus
DeleteHey Mid. Good to hear from you. Agree on all points. Throwing into quadruple coverage is unacceptable, but overall I thought Brock had a pretty good game and he'll learn from his mistakes. If Moody were a QB it would be one thing, but there are a number of available kickers who are available so it should be a no-brainer that he is gone. I just can't understand ShanaLynch on this. They've dumped bust 3rd picks before, why not Moody?
DeleteThanks Cubus. I don't think that Purdy's interception miscues is something that can be completely fixed. He's a mix of Brees and Favre. In other words, Purdy's a gunslinging field general.
DeleteIt's a fine line for a QB. Rightly or wrongly if the QB is conservative he's called a game manager. If a gunslinger, then sometimes considered to be reckless. Importantly, BP brought the team back to win the game.
DeleteMid
DeleteDon't disagree with you, but I'll give BP some slack on his two INT's..Kittle (out with hamstring 2nd Qtr), JJ (out 2nd half with shoulder injury), Pearsall, and Juice the only receivers he's work with, to get timing down during TC and PS.
But Definitely something BP and all the receivers needs to work on.
Pearsall looked good. Over 100 yards. And who the hell is Tonges! He wanted the ball more and made a great catch.
ReplyDeleteGreat team effort. That was one tough defense the offense faced today and our defense was very strong and held up better Thani expected. I think we have another very good team.
ReplyDeleteThe D looked better as the game went on but once again the pass rush was non existent. O line was poor especially Bartch and Brendel. CMC looked better than last year but not near as explosive as 23. Purdy's Ints were inexcusable. Tonges!!!!
ReplyDeleteOvercame the adversity inflicted upon themselves. Purdy remains undefeated thanks to MacDonald's arrogance in his defense when he chose to take the field goal on 4th and less than a yard with just over 3 minutes left, and Bosa's game changing strip sack.
ReplyDeleteIs Moody gone?
DeleteLet's put it this way. Pretend that Moody is a rattlesnake that just bit Shanahan's hand. Shanahan is responding to that by putting the same said hand in front of Rattlesnake Moody, believing that he was just unlucky the first time.
DeleteMoody was terrible today and should be gone but don't act surprised when they go through 5 just as bad kickers before they find a consistent one
ReplyDeleteWell I fully expected them to lose this game, so despite it being an ugly win I think that is a great result.
ReplyDeleteMoody definitely should be let go. He may well end up becoming a good kicker for someone else, but that's life as a kicker in the NFL - fail until you succeed somewhere. Holding onto a kicker that is highly inconsistent just because you think he has talent is counter productive.
Offense struggled some, but the Seahawks defense is pretty good. Not going to read too much into it for now. But definitely want to see more from them over the next few games.
Defense was much better than I expected week 1. Very promising. Maybe not the toughest outing they'll get all year, but still a great sign of things to come.
Reporter:
ReplyDelete“Kyle, when you say there’s no question about Jake Moody’s job security, why is that?”
Kyle Shanahan:
“It’s just the way you guys ask it. Right now I have no question. Trying to finish today and go get on the plane and evaluate stuff and go back at it.”
Me:
Apparently, Moody is going to see another game with the 49ers. The question is, how long will Shanahan's patience hold up? Many 49ers player's on both offense and defense looked rusty today. Had Purdy's up for grabs pass to win the game was intercepted, Moody would not have been the target of the 49ers fans grief.
Moody would still have been the target.
DeletePerhaps. But the Ints. that Purdy threw were worthy of attention. One thrown into almost triple coverage and one on a silly unnecessary overthrow. He got lucky on Tonges' endzone catch, but it was the type of pass that could have easily been Int. Now, Moody's 2nd field goal attempt was blocked and Shanahan said Love made a good play and that blocking should have better. What I can blame on Moody is that he prompted Shanahan to keep the offense on the field rather than have Moody try a FG. That can't happen going forward.
ReplyDeleteUntil Moody proves he can be relied upon, he will always be a target any time he misses kicks.
DeleteThere are reports that the 49ers have cut Jake Moody. Have any of you guys heard this?
DeleteIf Purdy got lucky on the throw to Tonges, then I’d say he got unlucky on at least one interception.
DeleteMoody's TD to Tonges was a desperation pass that often comes when a QB has to run under duress. He will need to be a little more careful with his passing selections going forward.
DeleteLet's review what happened on Sunday.
ReplyDelete1) In their game on September 7, 2025, against the Seattle Seahawks, the San Francisco 49ers had 36 rushing plays and won the game.
2) Points scored by Seattle Seahawks = 13
3) Points scored by 49ers not named Moody = 12
Looks to me like Moody won the game, but then that's just me. Great to read that Nick Bosa supports Moody as well.
For those of you demanding perfection, shouldn't we be releasing Brock Purdy as well as Moody? He wasn't perfect either. I wonder if all the Moody critics ever messed up in their own lives, and hold themselves to the same standard.
Adam Schefter is reporting that the 49ers and RT Colton McKivitz have agreed to a three year $45 million extension, with $27 million of the deal being guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteWow. Surprising
DeleteThis is wild.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Next Gen Stats, the games winning TD pass to Jake Tonges had a completion probability of 14.7%, making it easily the most improbable completion of the weekend. Purdy was moving at 15.98 mph when he threw the pass, while Tonges had a separation rate of 0.4 yards when he caught the pass.
