Rookie Noises

Uton Stout: Odds on favorite to be the starting nickel cb on Sept. 7th.

C. J. West: Best looking rookie DT in this regimes tenure. Bull rush is a problem immediately for opposing iOL.

Mykel Williams: Doesn't have the elasticity or speed off the edge of a true sack master but he sets the edge and is a problem inside against OG's where he'll make his living rushing the passer.

Nick Martin: Would be the starting WLB if not for the great camp Dee Winters is having. He's currently running with the second defense.

Jordan Watkins: He's the 3rd or 4th WR in the pecking order as well as taking reps as their primary PR.

Jakob Robinson: He's running with the number 2 defense as their outside CB. His closing speed has been on display.

Corey Kiner: With James and Guerendo out he's been showcasing his contact balance and availability.

Jordan James: Knee injury costing him but has looked really good. Receiving skills have been on point along with all their RBs.

Sebastian Valdez: Power and quicks with no length. Beat Colby twice in a row.

Alfred Collins: Behind the 8 ball but improving. He's ahead of West in the rotation curiously enough.

Conner Colby: He's been the LG with the number 2 offense. Coach Foerster, "Colby's strength is PassPro, and it's surprising given he wasn't asked to do much of it at Iowa, but his run blocking is not up to par yet".

Junior Bergen: The PR duties look to be between Watkins and Bergen. They've used him a bit on offense but he'll need to show he's the better PR option to make the roster.

Marques Sigle: Behind the 8 ball and running with the number 2 defense.

  1. According to Coach Hankerson, Ricky Pearsall is the fastest WR on the roster right now.

  2. 49ers signed WR Robbie Chosen and released WR Marquez Callaway.

  3. The 49ers have signed former Titans OT Isaiah Prince. They also worked out CB Zy Alexander.

  4. 49ers LB coach Johnny Holland speaks very highly of UDFA Stone Blanton:

"He's probably the linebacker that has the least amount of reps in training camp, and he has just as much ball production."👀

  5. “It’s Bartch’s job to lose, really,” Foerster said. “Nick had a chance when Ben was hurt early, but Ben came back quick enough that if Nick would have really asserted himself, [he could have] taken the role, but he didn’t. He was good, but we still feel Ben gives us the best shot.”

“It could be Spencer at left, and Austen right is how it looks,” Forester said. “I don’t know that there’s necessarily going to be a swing guy at this moment. Could we keep four guys and look at it? I don’t know how it all shakes down, but right now that’s how we are working them. We haven’t been swinging.

“We’ve done a little bit of it the days that Trent [Williams] hasn’t practiced, a little bit, but it’s more like a left and right. When Trent doesn't practice, then that guy has to take all the left tackle reps. That happens to be Spencer right now. It’s really hard for him to get the right tackle work.”

  6. So I assume then in this scenario Green is the other starting DB next to DL?

    1. Yep, looks like Lenoir and Green are your Sept. 7th outside CB's while Upton Stout takes over NB.

    2. Replacing two of our three starting CBs via our last two drafts would be sweet. That and the other hits makes me wonder if losing Peter’s was addition by subtraction.

  7. Upton has a little of the former Colts player Bob Sanders vibe. Small in stature, big as a player.

  8. Man, the Rams are in trouble. Stafford's back is on its last leg and at 37 he'll be stiff and immobile at best to start the season. At some point this year we'll see how good McVay can be with Jimmy G as his quarterback.

    1. McVay like Shanny will bring the best out of Jimmy G.

Yep, Stafford has 5 weeks before the season starts (Sep 7th)
against Texas. His lower back problem will require time to heal. And with all the torque required to throw the ball, it's a problem that he'll face all season! That leads to the question, many games will he miss?
And to add a little spice to the Rams situation, Garoppolo and WR Adams were not friends when both were with the Raiders.

    3. This is why I didn't pick the Rams to win the WEST. They were so incredibly lucky injury wise last year. And we were so unlucky. It's gotta flip soon.

Reversion to the mean is underrated and is definitely coming!

  9. Mac to the Rams in two years?

    2. It was great. I am always at my best when I am out in the woods/rivers. I always hate to leave but the older I get the harder it is to live by the seat of my pants. Going to take another trip down the Big Muddy in Montana which goes for about 150 miles. Fishing was okay, mostly Northern Pike, mixed with some walleye and I think white fish.

More power to you. I hope I am still able to do what you're able to do when I'm your age 👍

  10. Bradlee Anae DE✍️ w/ SF, 6' 3" 260 lbs., 26, was a fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2020.

  11. Interesting signing. The obvious questions for me are these, are the 49ers looking for more depth at DE or are they concerned that Matos is having a slow recovery?

  12. 49ers released K Greg Joseph

    Also waived
    CB Tre Avery
    WR Isaiah Neyor
    QB Tanner Mordecai
    TE Mason Pline

Down goes two more Krueger favorites in Mordecai and Pline.

  13. Signed: DL Bradlee Anae, DLBruce Hector, S Jaylen Mahoney, CB Fabian Moreau and OL Isaiah Prince to one year-deals.

  14. Jordan James has returned to practice. Guerendo has not.

  15. Anybody nervous about practicing and playing a meaningless game against a convicted bounty hunter's team? I am.

  16. Nah. Things sort of evened out in New Orleans after Ahmad Brooks almost tore Drew Brees a new one on a vicious hit. S. Payton took the suspension and the the aftermath that came with it, but DC G. Williams was kicked out of the NFL. I think it's safe to assume that Payton learned his lesson.

  17. Ricky Pearsall was unstoppable in 1v1's.

  18. 49ers starting defense today
    Mykel Wlliams
    Jordan Elliot
    Kalia Davis
    Bryce Huff
    Fred Warner
    Dee Winters
    Like Gifford
    Dallis Flowers
    Jason Pinnock

  19. Lombardi remarked last week that after Neyor' great 50 yrd catch, that Neyor had gone quite thereafter.
Maybe Neyor can be available for a possible return by being signed to the PS.

  20. DE Bradlee Anae had three straight would be sacks to end practice. Was beating Isaac Alarcon in third team with ease. Speed stood out.

  21. DT Kevin Givens sustained a pec injury and will be out for a while, per Kyle Shanahan. Sounds like an IR candidate. Possible it precipitated releasing Joseph or at least contributed to it. 2 kickers in camp is a luxury most teams don't enjoy.

  22. - DE Nick Bosa just got an additional rest day today (as normally scheduled).
    - FB Kyle Juszczyk got his heel stepped on and it's a bit sore. He's day to day.
    - DE Sam Okuayinonu is dealing with a groin injury expected to keep him out a couple weeks.
    - RB Isaac Guerendo has a shoulder injury that will keep him out a few weeks.
    - DT Evan Anderson has a knee bruise that will make him day to day.
    - S Ji'Ayir Brown's ankle is bugging him. He could return later this week. *I hope he doesn't end up having to do a "clean up" procedure.
