Looks like Russini source was wrong which makes Russini wrong. George Kittle is going to be a Mr. Niner.
ReplyDeleteNice to see deals done before training camp. All signs point to an imminent deal for Brock too.
ReplyDeleteOne down: Kittle
ReplyDeleteOne to go: BP
We know who the 9ers will play 2025 season, but not when:

GEEP,
DeleteThey will beat Tenn so 11-6
They'll also beat the Rams once.
DeleteGEEP,
DeleteI also predict an 10-11 win season.
"...offensive tackle D.J. Humphries has agreed to sign with the 49ers."
ReplyDeleteNice depth move.
DeleteI think it was Matty B that suggested he thought the Raiders sniped an OL the 49ers wanted at picks 98 and 99. Lynch's comments about how they got Williams, Collins and Martin exactly where they wanted them but didn't include Stout in that makes me think it's true.
So grabbing a swing OT in FA now makes sense.
If completely recovered from injury Humphrey will make a nice contribution. Not sure he is still a starter, but if wins a starting job in TC good for him and the 49ers.
DeleteGood to see the Kittle extension get done pretty swiftly. And awesome to keep him here long term.
ReplyDeleteNot too impressed with OT Humphries...
ReplyDeleteHumphries appeared in 2 games for KC last season, allowing 3 sacks and 11 pressures on 69 pass-blocking snaps (92 total snaps). He earned a 44.8 offensive grade and a 30.5 pass-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus—both career lows.
For context, he was fresh off returning from a torn ACL in December 2023, and was signed mid season having no TC etc to prepare.
DeleteHumphries career stats before the ACL tear are decent. He made the Pro Bowl in 2021. Hopefully he can step into the ST spot leaving Burford to compete for the left OG spot.
DeleteHumphries had two starts for KC in 2024 but started 15 games for Arizona back in 2023. That season he ranked T-21st out of 73 tackles in PFF’s Pass Block Efficiency Rating. D.J Humphries from 2019-2022 (w/Kliff Kingsbury):
Delete• 67.6 run-block grade
• 75.6 pass-block grade
• 13 total sacks (0 in ‘22)
• 4% pressure rate
His best season came in 2020 when he allowed just 3 sacks with a 90.8 run-block grade & 79.9 pass-block grade.
Scooter
ReplyDeleteTrue...We'll see how well he does with the 9ers...
Let me preface this post by saying I love George Kittle. Saying that this new contract worries me. It reminds me of CMCs extension last year. A huge contract on a often injured, older player. They just shed millions in contracts to clear up their salary cap for the future and here they go again.
ReplyDeleteIt's $36M fully guaranteed, so it's really only a two year deal with potential to be longer if he's still playing up to that level.
DeleteOldCoach
ReplyDeleteRE Kittle: I ask myself the same question. Hopefully it works out
for both Kittle and the 9ers.
RE Humphries: I'm not saying the 9ers should not have signed him. But he was cut by Arizona and he had to pass a physical before KC signed him, so no excuses now, if he has another poor year.
GEEP,
DeleteI don't know anything about his contract but I don't think he will get the chance to have another poor year. I believe he will have to play well in camp and in the preseason to win the ST spot or he will get released. Maybe a spot on the vets PS.
Kittle's 2025 cap hit lowered by $9.516M with his new deal.

ReplyDeletePrior to the draft I was pretty much dismayed by the so-called professional's board. (not anyone in here). I kept looking at the Niner's defensive line and kept saying 'what defensive line' and it didn't seem like they were addressing it. Apparently, Lynch and Shanny had the same thought. Normally with the first pick I like to see the BPA however, in this case, drafting for need was needed. The draft needs to turnout like the 1981 Ronnie Lott draft, where Lott, Eric Wright, Carlton Williamson, and Pete Kugler all made the team big time. Man, those were some great years; time will tell if this draft owns up to that.
ReplyDeleteThe good news is I think those first 5 picks all have the right mindset.
DeleteHaving the right mindset is paramount to success.
DeleteI still feel that the FO could have had more priority on the Oline.
ReplyDeleteWhy? Because imho, teams in our division especially Arizona and Seattle also built their Dline. While I'm happy with the 49ers using the draft to help build their defense, teams in our division are getting stronger to nullify the 49ers offense. We'll see how this shakes out when the 49ers play their division games.
Out of curiosity, how would you have liked the team to prioritise the OL during the draft?
DeleteI told you the earliest they'd target an OL was Round 3 but teams sniped Rogers and Grant.
DeleteScooter,
ReplyDeleteRd 7, pick 227 QB Rourke was a redundant pick. With Purdy, M.Jones, and Mordecai the 49ers didn't need another QB, imho.
Rourke may be red-shirted thereby essentially wasting a draft pick that could have been used for another Oline pick or another pick.
Yeah ok. I kind of feel that round 7 probably isn't the spot to really upgrade your OL.
DeleteFor mine the spot to probably do it was pick 75. At 11 they'd already missed on the top OTs and not keen on taking an interior OL that high. And at 43 I thought all the good options were gone, so you were looking at developmental guys by that point anyway.
But 75 I thought was a spot they could have grabbed a guy with genuine potential to start in 2026 at OT if needed, or an interior guy that could compete this year. But... I also appreciate they needed a LB for now.
I think Barrows is right that they were eying an OL at 100 and got sniped.
Got sniped 3 times, lol. Caleb Rogers, Charles Grant and Ayomanor.
DeleteCan't say I am too upset about getting sniped on Ayomanor 🤣
DeleteThe 49ers had a good bit of draft capital and I was looking forward to see Lynch make a trade. Perhaps giving a team some late rd picks in exchange for a shot at OL, Miles Frazier in the 5th rd. Frazier could have made some serious noise in TC. But like UC said, "it just didn't turn out that way."
DeleteYeah, Frazier in the 4th instead of Watkins might have been the better play.
DeleteThe 9ers 2026 picks are in, They have their own 1,2 and 3 They have 3 4th round picks, 2 5th round picks and 2 6th round picks. No 7th rounders. It would not surprise me if they are mediocre at or around the trade deadline that they would make a couple of trades for picks.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Kittle dealt with bilateral Achilles tendinitis (tracked back to sometime between 2020-2023) and sought stem cell treatment. Hasn’t had issues since.
ReplyDeleteChristian McCaffrey did the same in 2024, and is fully healthy again (also healthy from the PCL sprain).
Wheels up.
Jeez, they kept that quiet about Kittle.
DeleteOne thing I am really interested in seeing is whether Saleh sticks with predominantly wide 9 or whether he plays more condensed splits the majority of the time - more under and over fronts like he did in 2017 and 2018.
ReplyDeleteScooter
DeleteI would expect the wide 9 to help Mykel Williams. Requires less
bend to get to the QB and plays to his strength, using his power
against OT.
Definitely... on passing downs. I do wonder though whether we will see condensed splits on early downs more regularly. Williams obviously has the experience and skillset needed to hold up playing over the OT or TE if desired, rather than outside.
DeleteScooter
DeleteI agree, Williams has the experience and skillset to move inside, but Yetur Gross-Matos, or Okuayinonu will have to show they can handle EDGE on 3rd down?
* NOTE: The 9er depth chart shows Yetur behind Bosa and
Okuayinonu behind Williams).
Also, will Givens replace West on 3Rd downs, at least for the first 2 - 4 games?
I expect we'll see Saleh experiment with the front 7 during the preseason, to see who starts DT and at LB
Scooter:
DeleteIf Saleh does move Williams inside and Gross-Matos, or Okuayinonu at EDGE, I'd expect he'll use 5 D-line to stack the LOS against Run heavy teams that also use 2 TE's?
I was referring to base downs and Williams playing DE in a 4-man front but aligned over the OT (4T/5T) or TE (6T/7T), not aligned out wide (9T).
DeleteBut yes, on passing downs they've already said they like the idea of moving Williams inside to DT on occasion. Much like they already do with Bosa on occasion, I would imagine, but maybe more often.
I think that would be less about having other edge guys prove they can create pressure from the edge and more about looking for advantageous match ups for Williams inside.
I think we're gonna see more stunts this year with Williams, Collins and Bosa.
DeleteI'd love to see some Cowboy/ Aldon style stunts. Those two were magnificent working together.
DeleteScooter: "I was referring to base downs and Williams playing DE in a 4-man front."
DeleteI understood you when Williams alignins over the OT in a 4 man front. And yes, we both agree on Williams creating matchup
advantages when he moves inside.
My question was how does the 9ers front 7 stop a run heavy team using 2 TE's, when Williams moves inside?
With 2 TE's, the offense has 7 players blocking four 9er D lineman and the LB's. The OT and TE double team Williams
(or Bosa), trying to create a running lane between Williams and the 9er DT, with the Center blocking the LB.
I was suggesting the 9ers could use 5 D Lineman, with Gross-Matos, (or Okuayinonu) as the DE.
I think Williams would only move inside to play DT on obvious passing downs.
DeleteAgainst 2 TE sets they might look to employ an extra DL on occasion (such as short yardsge situations), but more likely would just play 4 DL and 3 LBs. That's the beauty of having bigger DEs and DTs that can hold up to double teams.
Former Jet, Chuck Clark free agent safety has two years under Saleh system. Injured yes, but familiarity goes a long way.
ReplyDeleteWith Mustapha's injury it wouldn't be a bad move to sign another safety. Hopefully he won't have to last the whole season, Mustapha might be back by game 6 or 7. Will Clark be 100% by TC?
ReplyDeleteTorn pectoral end of 2024 season, should be, he also had torn ACL 2023 season. Just a stop gap measure.
DeleteThey already knew about Mustapha's injury at the start of FA, which is why they signed two safeties already (Pinnock and Grant). Both guys have starting experience.
DeleteNot sure they need to add a 3rd FA with those guys, Brown, Odum and Siple.
The 49ers are projected to have 3 compensatory picks in 2026:
ReplyDelete• Two in Round 4
• One in Round 5
The projection I saw was 2 in 4 and 5. 2 in six because of a trade with Minn. So 2 in 4, 2 in 5 and 2 in 6.
DeleteOldCoach
DeleteThe 9ers are projected to get two fourth-round picks. One for left guard Aaron Banks and One for cornerback Charvarius Ward. They signed with the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts, respectively. A fifth-round selection comes from safety Talanoa Hufanga, who signed with the Denver Broncos.
The losses of offensive tackle Jaylon Moore, linebacker Dre Greenlaw and quarterback Joshua Dobbs are projected to be cancelled out by the additions of wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, tight end Luke Farrell and quarterback Mac Jones. None of the 9ers other free agent additions or losses qualified for the comp pick formula per Over the Cap.
Just watched some film on Connor Colby and Drew Moss, looks like a good chance to be keepers with Colby potentially winning the LG spot.
ReplyDeleteIf Bartch goes down at any point and Colby gets an opportunity, Bartch likely doesn't get his job back.

ReplyDeleteESPN Ben Solak projected 2025 DROY.
ReplyDeleteHe has Mykel Williams at #1.
That would be nice.
The 49ers sign Ross Dwelley to one-year deal, per the team.
ReplyDeleteI see him on the PS. He was Juice's backup for years
DeleteDwelley: A blocking TE for KS's run game
ReplyDeleteWho's making the cut?
ReplyDeleteGeorge Kittle
Luke Farrell
Ross Dwelley
Jake Tonges
Brayden Willis
Mason Pline
Kittle and Farrell are locks. They only kept 2 last year when they normally keep 4. I think they could do the same again. No team is looking to pick up any of the other TE's once they're cut.
They may have only kept 2 on the 53 initially, but for most of the year they had 3 (Kittle, Saubert and Tonges) and for part of the year Willis was on the 53 too.
DeleteBut to your point, yeah, I think they would be pretty safe cutting most of those guys to try and stash on PS initially and bring up as needed.
This was probably the easiest draft in this regimes tenure to predict.
ReplyDeleteI thought so.
