Buh Bye Lomu

49ers and 12-time Pro-Bowl LT Trent Williams reached agreement today on a two-year, $50 million extension that now contractually ties him to San Francisco through the 2027 season, per Schefter.

  1. Two-years, $50 million dollar extension with $37 million fully guaranteed, including a $22 million signing bonus. The deal keeps Williams under contract with the team through the 2027 season and frees up more than $20 million in 2026 salary cap space.

  2. I think they will wait until next year to draft a OT early. If there is a trade back available in the 1st round I could see them trading back 7 to 10 spots and then drafting a guard with that pick.

  3. 3 days until draftmas

  4. Williams ranked 3rd out of 89 OT's in '25.

  5. I've always felt that the 49ers and TW would come to a mutual agreement. The draftniks that had Lomu going to the 49ers were working from a pro-active mindset since there was no sure-fire guarantee that TW would re-up.

    1. He's told everyone he plans to play until 40 for the past 3 years but only a few of us listened.

  6. Now that Williams is signed, I think I’d draft OT Max Iheanachor. He’s raw but has tremendous upside, and with Williams on board, he’d have an excellent mentor.

    1. That would be a waste of a 1st round pick. At 27 you need someone that contributes right out of the gate.

    2. Who would that be? I don't see any openings other than RG.

    3. WR or Edge. Has never changed for me. I still think it'll be Concepcion or a big DE. I think they'll target their 240-250 pounder on Day 3 like a Tucker.

    4. Could potentially see Malachi Lawrence at 27, and either Sarratt, Bernard, Hurst or a surprise with their 2nd pick.
The truth will be settled very soon.

    5. I think Lawrence has the highest ceiling, but when you look at who he went up against in the Big 12 last year his stock is overinflated right now.

  7. They drafted Banks in Round 2 so it wouldn't surprise me to see them take an OG there, but I expect it to be Round 4.

    1. Agree. The Trent signing makes OL a lower priority.

  8. I think edge is now the most urgent need. Then LG.

    1. I don't think they draft a light (240-250 lb.) edge rusher in Round 1. Haven't done it yet....

    2. Razor,
If either Parker or Faulk are at 27 which one should the 49ers take?
      I'd prefer TJ.

  9. Another thing to consider gentlemen is Concepcion is also a very good PR. Just so happens we have an opening.

    1. If the 49ers want draft Concepcion, they'll need to move up
before the Browns draft him with draft pick number 24.

  10. The Eagles and Patriots are expected to finalize a trade that would send WR AJ Brown to New England after June 1, per Schefter.

  11. The TW re-signing doesn't change much of anything. We already knew he'd be a 49er in 2026, as did the 49ers. And despite some of next years contract being fully guaranteed, it is less than half so he is very much still a question mark for beyond 2026.

    1. Never been a question mark for me. When he said he'd play until 40 if they'll have me, I took him at his word.

    2. So why not give him more guaranteed next year? From what I'm reading it sounds like around $10M is guaranteed next year. An easy out. All it guarantees is that we'll be playing this circus again next year if they don't have anyone waiting in the wings.

Imo OT was unlikely to be the pick at 27 anyway, but the new contract for TW has changed nothing.

    3. Lynch sounded supremely confident Trent Williams will be the LT for the next 2 years to me.

    4. Yeah, I take that back. Seems they are looking at it as a true 2-year deal.

  12. I agree with Scooter's comment about it "not changing much of anything." This is probably going to repeat next year. And it's possible that over the next twelve months Williams' play will come down to earth.
