  1. De'Angelo Ponds is so ridiculously good.

    1. I like Ponds. But, his size is a concern for me. While he plays with the heart of a lion the collisions of game with his small statue may takes it toll on his body sooner than later.

    2. He'll go round 2.

AES, all true. He'll also still likely end up a really good player.

      Delete
    3. He very well could be, Scooter. One of favorite players of years ago was Safety Bob Sanders of the Colts. I loved his playing style, but his small stature eventually caused a number of injuries.
Last year, rookie Upton Stout (small stature) was nicked up in almost every game he played. That's my concern with smaller players.

    4. Big guys beat up little guys.

    5. The guy he reminds me of most is Jason Verrett, so you could well be right.

      Delete
    6. Verrett was so good too. Good comp.

      Delete
    7. Agree. Verrett was a great player. But, his body started to break down due a lot to his size.

  3. There are 3 players projected in the Top-100 picks who broke a tackle on more than 30% of their rushes/receptions:

    ⭐️ Jeremiyah Love (30.9%)
    ⭐️ Omar Cooper Jr. (31.3%)
    ⭐️ Jonah Coleman (31.5%)

  4. I know the 49ers seldom trade back with their 1st round picks but is there a chance with as few picks as they have this year of them trading back in the 1st round to get a 3rd round pick. How far would they have to trade back to pick up a 3rd and a 6th? If they could make that trade a long with trading back one of their 4th round picks they could return to a full arsenal of picks

  5. The NFL, likely worth over $225 billion, is hesitating to pay its referees more. Their contract expires on May 31, and referees earn between $200,000 and $250,000 per season for part-time work. Replacement officials just don’t cut it, even with instant replay.

  6. I was ready to tout Ark. RB Mike Washington as a possible 2-3rd pick because of his size and 4.3 40 speed.
But, the 49ers already have that type of player in Guerendo. Which begs the question, what do the 49ers plan on doing with Guerendo?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. IMO Guerendo is a cut candidate. He will most likely compete with the UDFA RB that we will pick up and based on his trajectory this far......will most likely be cut.

      Delete
    2. It also begs the question, why tout Washington?

I don't mind taking a late round flyer on athletic traits, but not a day 2 pick.

      Delete
    3. Maybe this is the antithesis of the smaller players. But, I like Washington's 6'1" 220 lbs and 4.3 40. He could be a banger on the inside that the 49ers were hoping to get from Brian Robinson.
If he drops to the 3rd rd is he more attractive to you?

      Delete
    4. More attractive than in the 2nd, sure. But he's a day 3 guy imo. Only 1 really good year of production in 5 years. Not convinced.

      Delete
  7. Mug,
You might be right. I'm a little confused as to what Guerendo did or hasn't done that put him on the bench last year. He showed some flashes as a rookie then went into hibernation.

    1. It's more what he doesn't do. Play RB with any kind of instincts. Give him a runway and he looks good.

      Delete
    2. Vision in this system is my primary trait when evaluating RB's.

      Delete
    3. Agree ....vision is lacking. There are many times where he just runs into the Oline and doesn't see the window as it opens. I would also if you can't block, you won't get the rock here.

His ST play is also not up to the mark. Maybe was not scrutinized under Schneider, but doesn't cut it with Boyer.

His injury history doesn't do him any favors too.

      Delete
    4. Sounds more like the 49ers failed to do their due diligence on Guerendo.

      Delete
    5. He was a roll of the dice. Might be snake eyes for him this year.

      Delete
    6. AES,

I think in the 2024 draft, we picked Mustapha in the 4th round and then there was a run on RBs.

Bucky Irving went first to Tampa, followed immediately by Will Shipley to the Eagles. I think one of those two were our targets. That is why I think our FO/Shanny probably panicked and picked their next best RB on the board.....happened to be Guerendo.

      Delete
    7. Hate to put it like this. But this sounds like desperate draft pick. I agree with Razor, Guerendo was a roll of the dice. A 4th rd pick is not a major whiff if Guerendo is not on the 26 roster.

  8. The 49ers-Rams Week 1 opener will begin at 5:35 p.m. PT on Thursday, Sept 10 at the 100,000-seat Melbourne Cricket Ground.

That means it will be a Friday, 10:35 a.m. kickoff in Melbourne. Look for the 49ers to arrive well in advance of that game.

    1. I've not heard of any other top 75 prospects with major character concerns. A few questions on level of commitment on some guys, but nothing major.

    1. Route Adjusted YAC over expected for the WRs the 49ers met with: KC Concepcion - 37% more YAC than expected Denzel Boston - 11% more Jordan Hudson - 10% more Omar Cooper Jr - 7% more

  18. The more I look at it the more I think I would take Brazzel over Boston.
The upside is higher, the route tree was more limited for Brazzel but at least he showed up against a big opponent . Boston against osu and Oregon didnt crack 30 yards. Thats a red flag for me.
Brazzel got 60 plus yards against every ranked opponent.
I get that Brazzel has shown less diversity in terms of routes due to the Tenn system, but he was more consistent and wasn't a complete non factor against very good teams. Couple that with higher upside and I'd go with him over Boston.

    1. His contested catch rate isn't good. He plays small. My red flag.

      Delete
    2. Maybe it's just that Tennessee system, but I don't trust Brazzell.

I don't think he's going to be a contested catch guy in the NFL. He did ok with contested catches this last year, but overall he's been poor.

So for him to be good I think he needs to win the way a smaller WR wins. Hard to do at his size.

      Delete
    3. I'm with ya there Shoup! Love his body control and he is blessed with size and speed that you can't teach.

He will thrive with an accurate QB like Brock!

I'll be Ok with Boston too. He is slower and you are right about his stats against good opponents, but he is a football player....blocks his ass off. But the higher upside IMO is Brazell.

      Delete
    4. I will say, if we go back to my comments the past few months about adding young blue chippers, Brazzell has that kind of upside if his game can translate to the NFL.

I don't think it will translate to being more than #3/#4 vertical threat WR like MVS, but if it does, he could be dangerous due to his vertical threat.
