A lot of positive feedback from scouts on WR Denzel Boston's pro day yesterday. Looked really good with his route work and catching the ball.

Impressive agility scores for his size. Importantly, stacks up with what you see on film.
DeleteSurprised he didn't run a 40. Wouldn't have been a burning time, but would be surprised if he runs over 4.55s which would be plenty good for his size too.
The San Francisco 49ers & Cleveland Browns will each host Indiana WR Omar Cooper Jr for a 30 visit per Fowler.
ReplyDeleteWatched a fair bit of Joshua Josephs today. Have to say, feel like he's probably not being talked enough about - kind of gets forgotten about despite being in most top 10 edges lists.
ReplyDeleteMost scouting reports on him talk about his long arms and decent explosiveness, both of which are definitely assets.
But two things that really stood out and surprised me the most was (a) the strength and feistiness at the point of attack - he's a much better edge setter than I expected, and (b) how active he is with his hands to try and get off blocks - he's not refined, but he is constantly working to get himself in the action.
The thing that was most worrying/ problematic was how often he just flat out missed the tackle. Got himself into position to make big plays pretty often but let a lot of them get away from him.
He isn't super bendy either, but the hand fighting helps make up for that to some degree.
I think it might have to do with the snaps where he looks like he doesn't know what he's doing.😂
DeleteBend and ankle flexion is pretty high on my list of a DPR.
I'm in the camp that they should focus on the best available pass rusher first. They don't need to good at setting an edge but we need someone teams are terrified of on obvious passing downs.
DeleteIf their isn't an obvious best available, I'd probably go with an OT that can moonlight at guard for a year or 2.
That means the OT can't struggle against power.
In the second depending on how the draft falls. It could be wr, edge, db, or lb.
TE and OT are less likely here for me...do to the falloff.

Salary Cap update, the 49ers, before the Hobbs, Gifford, Waitman, & Kirk deals, $39,603,561 under their adjusted salary cap, it's very possible that those 4 don't count any more than $8M-$10M, so potentially as much as $31.6M-$29.6M in cap room leftover. Once the Trent Williams deal is done and the Aiyuk adjustments they should have ample carryover for next year.

ReplyDeletePuni is a stalwart on the Oline. I expect the 49ers to draft another Olineman likely on day 3. Hopefully, the 49ers scouts have uncovered some off the radar diamonds.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see them draft a edge and o lineman in rounds 1 and 2. WR, LB TE and S in round 4. Although I don't see them using all 4 4th round picks. I see them trading back with at least 1 pick for a 5th and 6th.

That is 10 LBs already in 90 man roster. 8 of those, have played significant snaps for us and we usually have 6 LBs on the roster and 1 LB on the PS.
Unless someone like Dee Winters or Bethune gets traded, I don't see us drafting an LB. Getting another UDFA....sure, but not a draft pick.

DeleteI believe that at some point the 49ers will need to draft a LB because of their philosophy of drafting smaller players.
Dee Winters was washed out of many plays when blocked. Bethune was injured and Martin suffered concussions.

DeleteCoach, unless a team wants to give up a late 3rd rd pick for the 49ers 2 4th rd picks and a 2027, 6 rd pick. I'd prefer that the 49ers keep all their 4th rd draft picks. 4 picks in the 4th rd should still garner some good talent.

ReplyDeleteHe's highly versatile. Can play as a 4t/5t through to 9t, as a stand up outside LB or as a stack LB. Rush the passer or drop into coverage. Really good mobility for his size. Nice length. Powerful.
DeleteCurrently plays too upright, so needs some work getting and staying low. But like his ability to push through gaps with his strength and rip move.
He'd be a good compliment to Howell.
