And On The 7th Day

The 49ers will set an NFL record this season by traveling more than 38,000 miles, including trips to Melbourne, Australia and Mexico City crossing 58 time zones.

  1. The good thing about this, is that the Rams will have received less rest days if I'm reading this correctly. I could be wrong, but I see Seattle struggling in the second half of the season. It will come down to the 49ers and the Rams down the stretch.

We'll get an opportunity to evaluate the Rams, weeks 3 (VS Denver) and week 4, (VS Eagles), both away games.
Week 5 the Rams return for a home game VS Bills

  3. GEEP,
How do you see Seattle this season? Personally, I believe that the loss of Walker will hurt them down the stretch.

  4. Yes, I agree. Losing walker will hurt Seattle's ability to run the ball and control the clock. Also, Charbonnet tore his ACL in the playoffs and is expected to miss the beginning of the season. It will be interesting to see if rookie RB, Jadarian Price, can handle the load?
The Seattle defense is IMO, the strength of the team. Seattle will go as far as their D can take them.

    1. I'm feeling a forced fumble by the defense on the Seahawks rookie running back.

  6. The rest thing is oft misunderstood. I hear Larry talk about it like it's actual rest days citing what would happen if the chargers played the bears in the SB. They would have had a months more rest than the chargers.
When it's really only calculated based upon extra days between game.s it's more accurately counted as prep days so the advantage doesn't carry over.
Though it absolutely helps to have more weeks with a rest advantage. So it would likely lead to a better record.

    1. Yeah, agreed, it's alarming how many misunderstand what net rest differential means.

In the end, the story for the 49ers this year is they have a few games against opponents that either come after the opponents bye week or after a long week, and some the other way, which overall net each other out.

The "challenging" part about it is that aside from the Chiefs game, the games where they have a positive NRD are games that are expected to be against easier opponents, while the negative NRD games are all expected to be challenging opponents.

  7. Logan Ryan on Kyle Shanahan:

“Kyle Shanahan is one of the baddest coaches on the planet. He should have a lifetime deal with the 49ers. I knew from the moment I stepped in the first meeting of joining the team that Kyle Shanahan was one of the best coaches I've ever seen". This is a dude that was coached by BB!

  8. This is Shanahan's and Lynch's team. The only leftover player from the Baalke regime was Arik Arnstead and he left in 2023. My point is that while the current regime gets high kudo's, they have yet to deliver a SB win. Between Harbaugh and Shanahan, the 49ers are 0-3 in the SB. That's nice. But it still leaves an empty feeling for me.
Like Jed York said, "we raise Super Bowl banners." Personally speaking, nothing else matters.

  9. If the Niners can field a top five defense, this team is headed to the Super Bowl. The offense may be older, but that experience still gives them enough firepower to put up massive points.

  10. UC,
I'm with you in regards to building a strong defense. The pieces are in place with the young talent drafted over the last two drafts.

  11. I believe that the young defensive players will come into their own sooner than later. 30 yrs between winning another SB is a long time. Maybe I'm old and impatient, but it's time for this regime to DELIVER.

  12. Winning games and playoffs is good, no doubt. Winning a Superbowl is better than good, it's legendary.

    1. We are not getting any younger they need to get it done. If healthy, this is a very good team...if if if.

  13. UC,
Maybe the dice rolls our way this year. I definitely agree on the snake bite health issues in the past couple of years. Keeping my fingers crossed for a major injury free season.
