Bill Parcells' 7 requirements for drafting QBs out of college include... 1. Are they coming out as a senior? 2. Did they graduate college? 3. Were they a 3-year starter in college? 4. Did they have 30+ college starts? 5. Did they win 23+ games in college? 6. Did they have a career 60+% COMP% in college? 7. Did they have a career 2:1 TD/INT ratio in college?
This year, 7 QBs prospects meet all of this criteria:
- Drew Allar
- Carson Beck
- Taylen Green
- Cade Klubnik
- Luke Altmyer
- Diego Pavia
- Behren Morton
None of the QBs inside the top 100 on the consensus big board (Mendoza, Simpson, Nussmeier) meet all these requirements. Do you think they're outdated?

Round 2 EDGEs historically have low hit rate:
ReplyDelete2025: Ezeiraku, Scourton, Oladejo, Mike Green
2024: None drafted
2023: Derick Hall (hit), BJ Ojulari
2022: Ebektie, Mafe (hit), Ojabo, Sam Williams, Drake Jackson, Bonito (HR)
2021: A Ojulari, Boogie Basham
It's the problem with a lot of positions tbh. Edge, DT, OT (especially LT), QB. If you don't get them early, it's hard to find really good ones.
DeleteWeirdly, WR seems to be a position you can find some success both early and on day 2.
Regarding Parcells Rules.
ReplyDeletePer Wikipedia,
Drafted Quarterbacks by Bill Parcells (Head Coach)
Jeff Hostetler (3rd round, 1984 - New York Giants
Dave Walter (11th round, 1987 - New York Giants
Mike Perez (7th round. 1988 - New York Giants'
Craig Kupp (5th round, 1990 - New York Giants
Drew Bledsoe (1st round, 1993- New England Patriots)
Jay Walker (7th round, 1994 - New England Patriots
Chuck Clements (6th round. 1997 - New York Jets) @ Reddit +1
Vhile with the Miami Dolphins (2008-2010) as Executive VF f Football Operations, he oversaw the drafting of Chac lenne and Pat White in 2008.
If Parcells followed his own "Rules" he didn't fare well with his list of QB draft picks.
As one reporter (Wyatt) wrote, "a lot depends on the team."
I certainly agree with that.
As a long time Cal Bears fan, I can use Aaron Rodgers as an example. Rodgers was special at Cal, but it's often ignored that Cal had great talent around Rodgers during that era.
Gabe Jacas at 261 pounds today, he ran a 4.69 40 with a 1.59 10-yard split.
ReplyDeleteDid Jacas regularly drop into coverage. Did he rush the passer? If he did rush the passer what was his success rate?
DeleteHe's a power rusher. Checking the chart I posted awhile back, Jacas' career pass rush win rate was 14.5%.
DeleteA few NFL-verified 40/10-yd times from Indiana's pro day:
ReplyDelete4.36/1.52 - CB D'Angelo Ponds (180 lbs)
4.45/1.53 - RB Kaelon Black (211)
4.53/1.64 - WR Elijah Sarratt (207)
4.63/1.59 - SAF Louis Moore (190)
4.76/1.63 - Aidan Fisher (230)
4.90/1.70 - DL Mikail Kamara (250)
Sarratt was timed somewhere between 4.45 and 4.55, which is a great time for him. Solid player.
DeleteDevan Boykin was timed in the high 4.3s/ low 4.4s. He is so underrated as a S/CB hybrid option. Made a lot of plays for Indiana this year
The 49ers have shown interest in Houston kicker Ethan Sanchez, per Aaron Wilson.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
DeleteWhen your kicker has to make tackles, you've got to have a black book of 'em to dial up if you need one.
DeleteI think it's more likely most of their interest was pre-signing Piniero.
DeleteGreg Cosell and the TEs and OLs he likes:

Re-watching some of the OTs that could be available around pick 27 and I'm reminded how bad this OT class is. I don't like any of Lomu, Iheanachor or Miller that high, and Proctor feels like a bad fit as a RT only type prospect in Shanahan's offense (even though he played LT in college).
ReplyDeleteThis is by far one of the worst Interior Defensive Line classes I can remember when looking for blue chip traits and talent.
ReplyDeleteIts bad, but I thought 2020 was worse.
DeleteCornerback Charles Demmings of SFA has a lot of official 30's for a mid-round player who was at the Senior Bowl & Combine; he's getting hot....
ReplyDeleteA.J. Haulcy comp is Malik Mustapha.
ReplyDeleteThe top 5 head coach records in 49ers history 🏆
ReplyDelete1. George Seifert: 98-30 (.766)
2. Bill Walsh: 92-59 (.609)
3. Kyle Shanahan: 82-67 (.550)
4. Buck Shaw: 71-39 (.645)
5. Steve Mariucci: 57-39 (.594)
Sieifert inherited a really good team, while Walsh and Shanahan inherited very weak teams which affects their win percentage. Also Seifert and Walsh were the beneficiaries of no salary cap. The NFL is much more competitive now.
DeleteFrom 2017 thru 2025, KS's win-loss record is 91 -72. Over on Niners Nation, I recently posted the results of an analysis on KS' win loss record since there is much criticism of how he has the worst record ever when down by >=7 points. It's a deep dive that compares KS with the league as an aggregate, McVay, Reid, Harbaugh and Tomlin.
Deletehttps://www.ninersnation.com/post/hKdUkQY396u_
Also, I did comparisons with the different QBs that KS has had; namely, Garoppolo, Purdy and Others. This analysis also includes a comparison with the comeback QB, Patrick Mahomes.

If the 49ers want to play it safe at 27 and take a guy that's got a really high floor, I could see them drafting DT Christen Miller from Georgia. Really smart, disciplined and high character player that like his buddy Mykel will instantly help the run defense while also having some pass rush potential.
ReplyDeleteI found out Zxavian Harris had a couple arrests, and I had him right there with Miller.
DeleteJosiah Green At Duke Pro Day:
Delete1.65 10-yard split, 4.43 shuttle, 7.43 3-cone (all would’ve ranked 1st among DTs at the combine)
36 bench reps (Duke program record, would’ve ranked 2nd among all players at the combine)
34” vert, 9’6” broad (both would’ve ranked 2nd among DTs at the combine)
On film:
2nd in quick pressures among draft-eligible DTs (PFF)
Top 10 pressure rate among draft-eligible DTs (PFF)
Elite movement skills + ACC production.
As bad as this draft is what are the chances of the 49ers drafting BPA or trading back in the 1st round?
ReplyDeleteBPA would be a departure from past ideology, and they haven't demonstrated a propensity for trading back like Schneider.
DeleteI think they'll go BPA at a select few positions (DL, WR, OT) unless someone to good to pass at another position is available.
DeleteThey've tried to trade back before (2024), so it's possible they'll go that route if there isn't someone available they feel strongly about, but have to have a willing trade partner making an offer worth moving back for.
