  1. Haven't watched the game yet, but man, that's a stark difference. Guess I was wrong - Kittle missing wasn't just a problem, it was THE problem.

    1. Definitely, also to my eyes it looked like Hennessey was an upgrade over Brendel. 61 was more consistently with his blocking.

    2. Scooter,
Without a doubt Kittle makes a big difference but Atlanta's run D is pretty bad and they lost one of their inside LBs early in the game. I think the Texans will be a much better test of Kittle's effect on the run game. They have the #7 run D in the NFL.

    3. OldCoach, we're missing guys up the ying yang and you're making excuses for Atlanta missing one of their inside LB's? 😂

    4. Reading a few reports about the run game this week and sounds like another key factor was changing it up to be far more focused on power/ gap scheme this week.

  2. I predicted a win based on Kittle's run blocking lifting the offense, and Saleh's young defense being able to limit the Falcons' running game followed by use of well-timed blitzes to rattle Penix. It's impressive how well this relatively inexperienced defense is playing. I expect the D to travel well on the next two road games.

  3. Having now watched the game, have to say I am impressed.

That was a statement in the ground game. Straight up bullied them up front with a physical power game. Great way to get your OL back on track. CMC finally got some space and showed he's still as good as ever. And Mac was smart and efficient in the passing game.

On defense, was great to see some signs of life with the pass rush. Got a lot of pressure on Penix. And they did it while also being able to bottle up the run game. DL was excellent.

  4. I love games like that, smash mouth take no prisoners. This team is winning with young talent which bodes well for the future. The defense stalled a really good running game and kept pressure on Falcons QB. When the Niners stop the run game and they can run the ball there is no stopping them...

  5. I finally am getting over the Moody blues, it's nice to have a kicker that can consistently kick field goals and extra points.

  6. This team is showing great character and moxy. There was an immediate difference with Kittle playing and I expect the same results when Aiyuk and Pearsall return. The Oline is getting their groove back and the youth movement is growing with each game. My one concern is Upton Stout. His 'hell on wheels' style is going to keep him off the field more often than not. But at the same time thats his game.

  8. Tatum Bethune’s first game as a starter in Fred Warner’s place:

    • 56 snaps
    • 10 total tackles - led team
    • 3 missed tackles
    • 1 tackle for loss
    • 4 stops
    • 1 pressure
    • 2 targets
    • 14 yards allowed
    • 79.3 overall grade
    • 76.0 run grade
    • 67.2 coverage grade

  9. Bryce Huff (19.5%) is 9th among all edge rushers in win percentage. For context, he's one spot below Jared Verse (21.1%) and three spots away from Trey Hendrickson (22.6%).

  10. Nothing says qb protection like a good running game, and that's been the Shanahan family philosophy for decades.

  11. Bryce Huff's sack on Michael Penix tonight happened in 2.6s, per NextGenStats. That's his second-fastest sack of the season, and 12th fastest in the league through 7 weeks (before MNF).

His Week 2 sack was still a hair faster (2.44s) and still holds at 6th fastest on the year.

  12. Huff has 4 sacks in his first 6.5 games this season. That's his second most in a season in his career.

  13. Christian McCaffrey had six runs of 10+ yards all season, he had seven tonight alone vs. Atlanta.

  14. Per NFL Research,

The 2025 draft class has combined for the most scrim yds (9,523) & scrim TD (66) by any draft class through the first 7 weeks of their rookie season all-time.

  15. Am I the only one? Last night only days after his surgery Fred Warner was on the field during warm ups motivating his team mates. When Nick Bosa was injured he stated he would remain with the team if only to keep working with the young D linemen. Then he disappeared from the 49ers facility. Bosa is a very good player but he like the rest of his family is selfish. Warner is a great player and a good man. It is only my opinion but I don't think the same can be said about NB.

  16. More horrible health news, Bryce Huff pulled hamstring out at least 2 weeks

    1. I'm pretty sure Saleh is in charge of substitutions on the defensive side of the ball. When hiring a great DC like Saleh i'm sure KS has to guarantee him a certain level of decision making. If KS started micro managing Saleh's D he would be gone in a hot second

    2. There were reports KS didn't allow Wilks to blitz as much as he wanted/was his norm while w the tm........ would be interesting to see where the truth lies there.

  17. I believe that there was a trust issue with Wilkes.
Shanahan and Saleh's trust has never been in question. Saleh has the freedom to call all the shots on defense which is a privileged position.
