I have always felt the 49ers should have played more Man w Ward over the yrs....... and I feel the same w Lenoir. They're going to have to gamble somewhere to make up for the loss of Bosa as the better QB's are going to eventually pick you apart as they cannot hold up on the back end w/out pressure on the QB- like Baker did.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I didn't yell at the TV when I saw that soft zone against Tampa was because I promised not to. A strength of the defense is the man-coverage skill of Green, Lenoir and supposedly Luter. So Yeh, blitz like crazy if we have to -- anything is better than being picked apart and not responding.
DeleteI don't want to be the first to say the sky is falling but here I go any way. I don't see how any team that has lost 2 future HOF players on the same side of the ball, has one of the worst O lines in football and their schedule has gone from weak to relatively mid can expect to make the playoffs. This week against Atlanta should tell the story for the rest of the season
ReplyDeleteTbf coach, you and I have both been saying since the offseason that making the pkayoffs this year would be an achievement. Just such a young and inexperienced squad around a small core of elite players. Any of those elite players get hurt then it was always going to be difficult.
DeleteGood news is they started the season well, which gives them a punchers chance if the team can stick together and fight hard.
They surprised me early on but these injuries are just killing them. I go into every game wondering who will we lose today? It takes a lot of the joy out of watching the game.
DeleteDefinitely feel snake bit atm.
DeleteJust keep the score close at the end of 4th qrtr and maybe Eddy P can kick the winning FG. This guy might turn out as one of the players that keep the 49ers in the playoffs picture.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's still a playoff team until they are mathematically eliminated.
I also felt Purdy needed to utilize his legs more- but now, w his turf toe, that probably doesn't come into play- therein... I feel some wrinkles need to be added as the receivers lack the separation- I suspect w the OL being iffy, we could see a lot more blitzing..... I shall remain cautiously optimistic
ReplyDeleteOn the season ticket holder front- we are getting killed on the resale side and they have increased prices prob 40% over the last 3-4 yrs... I know last year there were a lot of complaints . We're in our 20th year but w kids out of the house and animals, it makes it really difficult to attend many games.......
The Giants are reportedly interested in trading for 49ers WR Jauan Jennings, per Ryan Dunleavy.
ReplyDeleteIf they can get a mid round pick for him, I would let him go.
DeleteSO WHERE DO THE 9ERS GO FROM HERE?
ReplyDelete* IMO, Warner's injury changes the focus from this season to 2026.
* JL said he was "canvasing the NFL and would not be shy about making a trade for an edge rusher." If the 9ers trade for a DE now, he will need to be under contract in 2026 also.
* JL may still be interested in a trade before the Nov. 4th deadline, but it doesn't make sense to strip away resources for future seasons to load up for the final couple months of this season. With luck and no injuries, the 9ers may be able to win enough games to contend for the NFC West title. But with the injury to Bosa & Warner, IMO, the 9ers don't have the players to beat the top teams in the NFL.
* The O-line is at best average. The 9ers can't run the ball, BP has turf toe and Mac is not mobile. The 9er QB's are being pressured and the offense is one dimensional.
* Without Bosa and Warner, the 9ers may not be able to reach their
ceiling this season, but it doesn't mean this year is lost.
* The 9ers have 18 1st and 2nd year players on their roster, many are considered key components for the future. They'll have opportunities to gain valuable experience that will benefit them in 2026 and beyond. When Bosa and Warner are back in the lineup, they'll be surrounded by a better supporting cast.
* From 2021 to 2023, the 9ers had poor drafts with one quality player, Lenoir, B P and Winters, from each of those draft classes.
The returns from the past 2 years have been much better. The 9ers will have five 2nd year players in the starting lineup for the rest of the season and at least six rookies are filling significant roles.
* The rest of this season should be about setting themselves up for the future. A big part of that is keeping all of their 2026 draft picks for as many QUALITY draft picks as possible.
Yeah, pretty much how I feel.
DeleteI think the only reason for adding a 1 year rental is if they feel the player is important to help their youngsters grow. So would need to be a leader. But I agree that ideally anyone they trade for would be on the roster at least next year as well.
At this point I think the 49ers should be sellers not buyers. If they can find a way to beat the Falcons this Sunday maybe they hold off for one more week but if they lose Sunday they should make trades to load up even further for the 26 draft. Jennings, Purdy or Jones, Aiyuk, B. Robinson, Sky Moore, Valdes-Scantling, Farrell. Pinnock and Brown. @ or 3 trades could bring an extra 2 to 4 picks. From what I am reading it is an O line heavy draft. Rebuild thru the draft the O line, a HR hitting RB and a pass rusher. In free agency add a couple of mid priced LBs.
DeleteThe @ was supposed to be a 2
