With Nick Bosa going down with a knee injury the 49ers are losing a player a week. Fortunately help is on the way with Demarcus Robinson returning to the WR room after his 3 game suspension. I'm very high on his affect on this offense and thought it was a sneaky good F/A signing. Brock Purdy looks poised to return as well after avoiding the most serious complications of turf toe. The fact that they've been able to tread water with all these injuries is a testament to the coaching and grit of the team. Hopefully Nick Bosa has a knee sprain that sidelines him 2-4 weeks instead of a more serious problem. We're one win away from my prediction of starting the season 4-0. Let's keep it going!!

  1. Being 3-0 feels more than just treading water, especially when 2 of those wins are in division.

But now that guys are coming back hopefully the offense can get more productive, especially in the run game. Realize that those returning will benefit the pass as it's qb, wrs and kittle, but hopefully that helps the run by making it so defenses can't crash down on the run as much as the team will be more threatening in the pass.

  2. Bryce Huff with the 49ers:
    • 3 games (90 snaps played)
    • 2 sacks
    • 9 tackles
    • 1 forced fumble
    • 2 tfl
    • 1 pbu

Bryce Huff with the Eagles last season:
    • 12 games (298 snaps played)
    • 2.5 sacks
    • 13 tackles
    • 1 forced fumble
    • 3 tfl

He has almost matched last season's production, in just 3 games. Testament to the difference that solid coaching can make!

  3. Mug,
That's an outstanding revelation. Bryce looks like he could be a very good signing for the 49ers this season. His initial 'get off" from the LOS is explosive.
If Bosa misses any time, I wonder if Bryce may start?

  4. #49ers Nick Bosa has suffered a season-ending ACL tear, per @AdamSchefter

  5. That's horrible news. I wish him well and hope he's ready to play next season.
But with this being his 2nd knee injury and on the opposite knee that was injured before is it time for the 49ers to sign Huff on a longer contract?

    1. AES,
It has been reported that it is a clean tear which makes it more likely that it will be a successful and quick recovery. With Bosa's work ethic i'm betting that he will be fine by the start of next season

  6. Coach,
That news is a little comforting. But, I can't help but to wonder as to Bosa's ability to stay healthy when he does return. This injury represents surgery on both knees now. I just hope he is fully healthy upon his return.

  7. I like DL's observation.

    @LombardiHimself
2020 = blueprint for Robert Saleh. Even despite losing Nick Bosa to an ACL tear that year, 49ers finished #6 defense DVOA. Happens to be exactly where they're at right now in '25.
If 49ers can pair an elite, top-5 O with a top-half D, they'll remain in position to make a run."

Me: it looks like Saleh is the 49ers best signing of the off-season.

    1. Yes....immediate replacements (snap wise, not quality wise) might be Gipson and Robert Beal Jr.

They might do a trade if we are say 6-2 at the trade deadline. But I think that is unlikely.

  10. My 2 cents. Wait until the around the trade deadline and if they are still above .500 offer the Bengals a 3rd round pick for Trey Hendrickson. I think they could get him for that because he will only be a rental.

    1. If the Bengals would take Aiyuk's 30 million contract, we could afford Hendrickson. With Pearsall, JJ, Watkins, Robinson, Cowings? is Aiyuk expendable?

    2. That is an interesting thought. Do the Bengals want Aiyuk also Aiyuk would have to return and show he was the same player he was before the injury

  11. This is starting to feel like another injury ravaged year. Hard to overcome injuries to star players. Bosa is not a death knell, but his loss will make it harder for the defense to win them games.

In saying that, if there was a year to have guys get hurt this is it. It's a transition year, and getting young guys more opportunities will help the team long term.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I read over on NN that it's the same knee that he tore his ACL in 2020. Realistically, how many times can you tear the ACL in the same knee where, despite Bosa's work ethic, it just will never get back to where it needs to be. Having said that, I wish him well and a speedy recovery.

    ReplyDelete

    1. The injury is not in the same knee as his injury in 2020. He had a partial tear of his ACL in 2015 (H.S.) in the same knee as yesterday

    2. Glad to hear that coach. Like cubus, I was concerned it was same knee he tore in 2020.

Still, it's a concern that he is clearly susceptible to knee ligament injuries.

  15. I know fans will be keen to see the team trade for a big time 1 year rental edge guy with Bosa gone. But you only do that if the player is the missing piece to potentially winning the SB. And as exciting as being 3-0 is, and as promising as the young guys have looked, I find it hard to consider this roster a SB contender in 2025.

They did a big time salary cap reset this offseason. This isn't the year to go all in to add a rental piece.

      RE Trade for Henderson.....
I would agree with your assessment that the 9ers would NOT
make the trade...With one exception! "IF" the 9ers beat the Rams Oct 2nd, but lost to TB, at TB on Oct 12th. Then after defeating the Texans on Oct 26th the 9ers were7W - 1L...Then I could see the 9ers making the trade for Henderson just
before the trade deadline on Nov 4th.

Rueben Bain would be a great 2026 9er draft pick, but is likely a top 5 draft pick.
TJ Parker, EDGE, clemson is projected to be mid 1st Rd but may not be there when the 9ers draft?
Matayo Uiagalelei EDGE, Oregon is projected mid to be a late 1st Rd draft pick.

  22. Coach,
This begs the question: Can Aiyuk be traded while on IR? I believe that the potential team that trades for him has a 21 day practice window to ensure that the player is fully healthy.
In this event, the Bengals could be interested for a two way trade of Aiyuk for Hendrickson.
    Just a thought...

    ReplyDelete
  23. AES,
I have never heard of that 21 day rule. I know a player has to pass a physical before a trade becomes official. With Aiyuk's injury being an ACL, MCL and meniscus I think any trade for him is a gamble especially at 30 mill per.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hendrickson carries a 29mil contract. A potential trade could be something along the lines of a wash. But, you are correct in re to Aiyuk's current injury being a risk.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think one has to consider the possibility that Aiyuk will never be the player he was, so he might not have any trade value now.

    2. Yeah, that's my fear George. If it was just the ACL I wouldn't be as concerned, but the damage he did was very significant. Getting back to 100% will be a big challenge.

A bit like the injury N Bowman did. And he was never the same afterwards.

  25. The 9ers week 4, VS the Jaguars: Jaguar's strength on offense:
    * Owner Shad Khan hired Liam Coen as the new HC of the Jaguars after firing former GM Trent Baalke.
    * QB Trevor Lawrence: Now In his 5th year, this is a pivotal season for Lawrence, as he adapts to new HC Liam Coen's offensive scheme.
With a refreshed offensive line and new weapons, Lawrence is under pressure to deliver consistent, efficient play. Key areas of focus are improved ball security, better footwork, and becoming team leader.
His current 2025 season stats, show him with 671 passing yards, 4 passing TDs, and 4 interceptions.
    * RB's Travis Etienne and rookie Bhayshul Tuten have the 9th best rushing attack in the NFL.
    * The addition of O Lineman C Robert Hainsey, who previously worked with HC Coen in Tampa Bay, and OG Patrick Mekari are given credit for helping to improve the rushing attack as well as the pass protection for QB Trevor Lawrence.
WR Travis Hunter: Their dynamic 1st RD draft pick. Hunter, is being utilized on both sides of the ball and listed as a starting WR. The 2 way threat could pose matchup problems for the 9ers' secondary. In Week 4 his role on offense has been reduced, but the Jaguars' depth chart still lists him as a starter.
    * WR Dyami Brown: A versatile, speedy WR for the 2025 Jaguars, playing a featured role in the new Liam Coen-led offense. He excels at attacking all 3 levels of the field and has strong YAC ability.

    Jaguar's weaknesses on offense:
    * The Jaguar's 3rd down conversion rate is 37.5%, which ranks 24th in the league.
    * The Jaguars have converted 50% of their red zone opportunities into touchdowns, ranking 19th in the NFL.
    * The Jaguars have struggled with pass protection, allowing 6 sacks in 3 games.
    * WR Brian Thomas: His exceptional rookie season's high receiving yards, is contrasted with early-season slump in 2025, including his route-running inconsistencies and dropped passes.

    The Jaguars strength on Defense:
    * Under DC Anthony Campanile, the Jaguars defense is tied for the league lead in turnover differential (+5).
    * EDGE rushers Travon Walker and Josh Allen are getting pressure on opposing QB's. Walker has 2 sacks and Allen has 0.5 for the first 3 games in 2025 season

  26. Bleacher Reporter Kristopher Knox names Lions, 49ers as possible trade suitors for 79 sack superstar EDGE rusher, Cincinnati superstar Trey Hendrickson.
Knox believes Hendrickson could fetch a conditional second-round pick in a trade, which is plausible given the Bengals defender's status as an elite pass-rusher.

  28. GEEP,
I believe that the 49ers will dip into the 2nd and possibly 3rd rd in the 2026 draft for a DE.
This is in no way denigrating Bosa. But the reality is that no one knows if Bosa will be same.

Razor, has introduced some college DE's that I didn't know. But I will start to take closer attention to.

Yes. I looked at the DE's Razor listed and listed 3 more 1sr Rd draft picks.
Do I think the 9ers will draft a DE in 2026 RD #1? NO! But If I had to guess, I'd nope for RD #1, OT. RD #2, C and Rd #3, OG....
Also, look at my Response to Scooter's post for a DE trade, Sept. 23, 2025 at 12:19 AM..And the possibly that the 9ers could trade for DE Henderson....
    * If you get a chance, check out a unicorn, freak WR, from S. Carolina, Name Nyck Harbor: 6'5" x 235, with a 4.24s 40. I have him listed as
a late 1st Rd draft pick in 2026 draft. He'll be a Junior and still very raw. He'll need to work with NFL coaching. But with the natural talent that can't be taught....he reminds me of a poor man's Randy Moss.

  31. There's meia speculation the 9ers are trading for the NY Jets DE Micheal Clemons (6'5", 263 lbs), but NO TRADE has been completed. Following a season-ending injury to 49ers DE Nick Bosa, various sports outlets identified Clemons as a potential trade target for San Francisco. However, as of September 25, 2025, the 49ers had not made such a move.

  32. DL, made a good point on his YouTube channel a day or so ago. When it comes to making a trade, it's too early in the season with only 3 games played. In the case of Hendrickson, Cinn. is 2-1 with no real need to make a trade for Trey at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If Aiyuk doesn't play enough this season (If at all) to show he's still who he was, then he may not be tradeable next year either. If he was tradeable, just getting rid of that 30 million/year means they could afford just about anybody. Now they can't even say that it's no big deal to pay Hendrickson because next year they'll be dumping Aiyuk.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think if they can get Aiyuk looking good next year they'll look to move him by the trade deadline in '26.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That would make very little sense unless they are in the midst of a losing season. The cap saving trading him mid next season vs end of next season would be almost 0. And if he's playing well... why move him during the season unless your team is out of contention?

      Delete
    2. Why move him? I got $30M reasons why. He'll be 28 next season. Potential Out: 2027, 3 YR, $75,906,300; $21,247,562 Dead Cap if they do decide to keep him around next season.

      Delete
    3. It's pretty much the same cap hit whether they trade him mid season or end of season. So no, it doesn't make much sense.

      Delete
    4. Also... don't take Spotrac's dead cap estimate for the 2027 "out" as gospel. It's not correct, as it doesn't account for his option bonus in 2026. Once that kicks in, the dead cap will be about $40M in 2027. If they trade or release him after June 1 in 2027, they can defer some of that to 2028.

      Delete
    5. I truly believe they want to move on from Aiyuk when it makes sense, and I doubt they ever pay a wr that kind of money ever again.

      Delete
    6. Yeah, I think they would like to get out of the contract too. Unfortunately it looks like a tough one to get out of until 2027.
