Mac Jones gets the start again this week. If he continues to hold the ball he might not make it through unscathed. With Burford going on IR, it's Pleasants swinging LT and RT. They didn't call up Zakelj so that means either Colby is good to go or they like Moss' strength as a better match up against Tomlinson. The Cardinals secondary isn't full strength which means Ricky Pearsall should score his first TD today. Arizona's blitz rate is 31st in the NFL at 14.2%, but they are 4th in EPA/blitz at -0.33. San Francisco ranks third in the NFL against the blitz, boasting a 0.62 mark. The 49ers are 5th in EPA/non-blitz with a 0.11 mark. Handle the pressure & attack the secondary. The Niners defense needs to do something they've yet to do and that's stop James Conner. Do that and they should win the game. I like CMC to be force fed the ball in this one. It might not be Purdy but we will win this game! 24-17 Forty Niners!!

The unfortunate realization is that we don't know if any of the other, older, receivers can get any separation...... would like to see stretch plays to keep AZ's front four honest on the edges. In Mac I trust.... big game. D Rob's return will be important addition next week.
ReplyDeleteCardinals have 14 players on IR and 5 of their top corners are out.
Delete49ers have 12 players on IR and 5 of their top wide receivers are out.
NFL Arizona players who scored TD's for week 1 and week 2:
ReplyDeleteWeek 1 VS Saints: Murray threw for 2 TD's & had a 50-yard TD run
Week 2 VS Panthers: Scored 1 TD on 11 yard pass
Week 1 VS Saints: Conner had 12 carries for 39 yds. Scored 1 TD on a 4 yard reception.
Week 2 VS Panthers: Conner, 43 yards on 11 carries, scored 1 TD Conner also had 18 yards on 1 reception. No receiving TD
Week 1 VS Saints: WR Harrison had a 1 yard reception for a TD
Week 2 VS Panthers: Harrison had 27 yards receiving, no TD
Week 1 VS Saints: WR Wilson had a 11 yard reception for a TD
Week 2 VS Panthers: WR Wilson had no TD
CMC's stats the last two games against the Cardinals:
ReplyDelete• 221 rushing yards
• 12 catches
• 143 receiving yards
• 7 touchdowns
Razor: "The Niners defense needs to do something they've yet to do and that's stop James Conner. Do that and they should win the game."
Delete* I don't disagree, but IMO, containing murray is the key to a 9er win over Arizona.
* With 5 of Arizona's CB's out, Both CMC and Pearsall should
have receiving TD's. CMC a receiving TD and a Run TD.
I expect a lot 21 personnel today, as well as some 12 and 22.
ReplyDeleteRazor
ReplyDeleteArizona HC Gannon and OC Petzing, will employ a lot of 11 and 12 personnel, but I doubt we'll see them use much 21 or 22 personnel.
Arizona wil runs 2 TE sets more than 50% of the time. They will also run 13 personnel grouping. Gannon has specifically built the Arizona roster to utilize TE's Trey McBride, Tip Reiman, and Elijah Higgins in multiple formations.
Petzing uses 13 personnel to open up the play-action passing game. By selling the run and try catching the LB's and safeties moving up toward the line of scrimmage, creating opportunities for their TE(s) to run pass routes into an open space.
I'm talking about us, Geep.
DeleteAhh, OK! 👍 Got it.
DeleteThe Eagles backup RT getting eviscerated.
ReplyDeleteI felt that the Rams would be a good test for the Eagles and so far it's Philly that is failing.
DeletePhilly looks as if they've figured out the Rams.
DeleteAES
DeleteEagles score TD and lead 28 to Rams 26, with 1:48 left.....Like I said, a win over Arizona and the 9ers lead the division.....

DeleteTurns out the Rams special teams might be as bad as ours.
DeleteAnd everyone had the Packers crowned the Super Bowl Champs.
DeleteI got you, GEEP. Well fought game and Rams still look very strong. This division will be between the 49ers and the Rams. But after just 3 games it's not a given either way. My heart says the 49ers, but my mind says there's still a lot of football left to play.
DeleteAbove comment, mine.

DeleteCardinals are a bad 2nd half team.....we just have to weather the onslaught of the 1st quarter and keep turnovers to a minimum. If Special teams don't kill us, the D is good enough to win the game on it's own.
ReplyDeleteMac is something like 0-7 after a win, but this time I think we will prevail in a knife-fight. Arizona's secondary is bad....looking for a big game from CMC, Pearsall and Bourne/Juice.
Go Niners 28-24!
Cardinals Inactives vs. 49ers in Week 3:
ReplyDeleteCB Will Johnson (groin)
LT Paris Johnson (knee)
OL Will Hernandez (knee)
RB Bam Knight
LB Xavier Thomas
WR Xavier Weaver
49ers inactives:
ReplyDeleteQB Brock Purdy
WR Jauan Jennings
RB Jordan James
WR Jordan Watkins
DL Jordan Jefferson
LB Nick Martin
G Connor Colby (groin) is active. T Austen Pleasants and G Drew Moss are active for the first time this season.
2 possessions and the O line has been horrible. Sweat is dominating the O line. We might be in for a long day
ReplyDeleteSaleh's defenses biggest weakness stopping running QBs
ReplyDeleteConner leg does not look good.
ReplyDeleteFinally, a 9er TD
ReplyDeleteWhat a call on 4th down by Shanahan there! Tough catch and great throw. We might just squeak out a win here.
ReplyDeleteMight be done with Green. He's regressed a lot. Just dumb dumb play.
ReplyDeleteGreen panicked.
ReplyDeleteUGLY UGLY UGLY but who gives a damn we won
ReplyDeleteNot me. Go Niners.

ReplyDeleteAnother game which we never win without Saleh and the D. Unreal!
ReplyDeleteWhat a coming of age game for the young D. Mac Jones just revived his career.
Yesss, Eddy! Great drive by Mac. All he had to do was keep the boat upright until Purdy returns. He did!
ReplyDeleteDOES FIRST PLACE FEEL GOOD?
ReplyDeleteHell yea!
DeleteThese are the kind of wins that build team character.
ReplyDeleteYes, and gives you ulcers!
DeleteYes, great win.
ReplyDeleteGEEP,
ReplyDeleteI'll feel much better if the 49ers dodged a bullet with Bosa' knee injury.
Yea, The first check is encouraging (per KS), But more testing needed!
DeleteShanahan said that more test will be made on Bosa's knee and that they are not ruling out an ACL.
DeleteGreat win despite not having our arguably best 4 offensive players.
ReplyDeleteOkay, not our top 4 but 4 top players.
DeletePer KS Bosa's knee doesn't seem to be an ACL but they can't rule anything out
ReplyDeleteHopefully Jones doesn't have to play another game but if he does and he plays like he has the last 2 games, I think the 9ers can get at least a 1st round pick for him
ReplyDeleteI think that's pretty hopeful. I would be very surprised if a team gave up a 1st for him, even if he plays well for a handful more games.
DeleteTbh I would probably hold onto him another year. He's cheap for a good backup. And can probably get a good comp pick for him when he leaves.
Coach,
ReplyDeleteRicky Pearsall had a big game. He is looking like he's ready to make his name known around the league this year.
I think trading Jones next year is all predicated on how Rourke looks and if they can squeeze a team for a 2nd round pick.
ReplyDeleteThree of the top four receivers in the NFL in yards per game reside in the NFC West.
ReplyDelete1. Puka Nacua, LAR - 111.0
3. Jaxon Smith-Njigba, SEA - 107.7
4. Ricky Pearsall, SF - 93.7
(Baltimore's Zay Flowers is second at 109.)
Only just got a chance to watch the game. Gutsy effort. Offense struggled a bit, but got big plays when they needed it. Pearsall has looked excellent through 3 weeks. OL has done a pretty good job giving Mac time, but still having some issues team wide getting the run game blocking in sync.
ReplyDeleteDefense is excellent. Again got some lucky drops and missed opportunities by the Cards to help them out, but blocked up the run game, got some pressure, and coverage was generally tight, making it a tough day out for the Cards. Young guys really stepping up. Mykel is really good and already making plays. Sigle and Stout flying around. Collins has really improved since week 1. West also getting better. Very excited about where the defense could be come week 10 onwards.
🤞 Bosa is ok.
Finally stopped Conner!
DeleteYeah should have broke his leg years ago haha
