ReplyDeleteWhat do you think Brock Purdy is going to do with Mike Evans to throw to?
DeleteEvans should help Purdy, hopefully Stribling, Kirk, Watson and Cowing will also help him but it looks like Pearsall is already injured. Regardless of how much help he receives from the WR room it won't make a big difference if the O line doesn't show great improvement both blocking for the run and the pass. Especially against the Rams, Seahawks and the Broncos.
DeleteThey ranked 3rd in Pass Pro last year.
DeleteA product of Purdy's mobility rather that the O lines ability. I would love to see that stat when Jones was at QB. Where were they ranked on run blocking?
DeleteOldCoach, Purdy's elite reactionary quickness mitigates pressure but it's not fair to count that against his OL. How about how long Purdy holds the ball, are you going to adjust your rating?
DeleteRun blocking is where they need to improve as it's the fuel of the offense. That's where Willis comes in as he's an elite run blocking OG.
It sounds like the 49ers see Willis as more of a C than a G. I think the LG spot will be filled by either Jones or Colby
DeleteMay the best man win.
DeleteBP will feed both Kittle and Evans, especially Evans on 3rd downs and red zone. But IMHO, WR speed will be equally important, forcing the opposing DB's to be honest and not allowing them to play closer to the
ReplyDeleteLOS. (if they can stay healthy).
Pearsall needs to have a good year or he'll find himself fading into obscurity. Evans, Stribling along with an improved Cowings will be knocking on the door to receive playing time.
ReplyDeleteKnock, knock. Who's there? De'Zoom, that's who!
DeleteAlex Smith on what stands out to him about Brock Purdy:
ReplyDelete“Since he’s been playing, and this is what I don’t think people realize, this guy pushes the ball downfield. When you look at the down the field from the quarterback as far as attempts, completions, accuracy, I mean this guy leads the league in the NFL every year in every one of those categories. This is the guy that battles the game manager thing. Like he’s just a product of the system. It just couldn’t be further from the truth.
This guy is a phenomenal player. You want to talk about risk taker, to layer these balls over the middle and to throw it as early as he does, it takes guts. There’s trust you have to have. Unflinching trust to turn these balls loose in an NFL game. Knowing your vision’s obscured, hoping the guy is in there where he’s supposed to be, and this guy just does it time and time again. That’s a gift.”
Alex Smith was asked if he thinks Brock Purdy will win a Super Bowl:
ReplyDelete“Yeah, I think he’s got a great chance. This is a guy that I think will always give you a chance to be in contention. Look at last year, if that’s not an example— they had no business doing what they did last year. Given all the adversity and who they were playing against. Look at the division. I still think you can make an argument that Kyle Shanahan is Coach of the Year last year with the job he did. Look at the way Brock played. Again, he’s always going to give you a chance vs anybody. I still think Brock’s best days are ahead and I think he has the skill set to play high level football for a long time.”
Alex Smith on Kyle Shanahan:
ReplyDelete“You have a chance every year with Kyle. I think he’s one of the best head coaches in football. He reminds me a lot of when I went to Kansas City with Andy Reid. Andy at that point was widely regarded as an amazing head coach, but hadn’t won the big one yet. Kyle’s been on the doorstep how many times now knocking on the door and it’s gonna happen and it’s gonna be an avalanche. Then all of a sudden we are gonna be talking about him on the Mount Rushmore.”
Smith got a little exited, about the Mt. Rushmore comment. But at this point, It could happen.
ReplyDeleteAlex Smith was likely the smartest QB in the NFL during his tenure in the league.
DeleteTrue.
ReplyDeleteWho are your Mt. Rushmore QBs?
ReplyDeleteJoe Montana is my QB if my life is in the balance on the outcome.
DeleteMy Mt. Rushmore of QBs is #1 Montana, #2 Otto Graham, #3 Johnny U and #4 Brady. The highest level of play over one season is Steve Young in 1994
DeleteNever lost a Superbowl, never threw an Int. in a Superbowl.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on Montana.
