Purdy Good

  1. Meh. He sucks, its all Kyle Shanahan.
Until he leads a 33 point comeback win, throws for 5400 yards and 55 tds and completes 74 percent of his passes... I wont rank him top 10 in the NFL.

    1. Whitner has become somewhat of a blowhard at this point.

      Delete
    2. Is Whitner's slant against the entire 49ers organization or just Jiy're Brown? If it's only regarding JB, I can't think of a better person who can assess Brown's play then one who once made his bones playing the same position.
Sure, the resulting name calling between the two was childish, but as all things, the proof is in the play on the field and Brown is average at best.

    3. Whitner has become very negative since he was not invited back to the 49ers pre and post game shows. I wonder if he is a little bitter? I always enjoyed his takes on those shows.

      Delete
    4. Ditto, OC. The only reason I watched that show was to listen to Whitner's take on the players/games. Do you know why they didn't bring him back?

    5. Between being a "yes man" and being "objective," I'll always take objective every time.
Whitner is not afraid to deliver the inconvenient truth. If he's hating on the 49ers organization, I cannot except that. If JB is the target of his critique. I'm fine with it.

    6. Cubus,
According to NBS Sports Bay Area Whitner was let go for cost cutting. He was the highest paid on air personality.

    7. Coach,
Spent the day with family out in your neck of the woods in Larkspur. We had lunch at Perry's at Magnolia. It was a day of great weather and great food. Marin is beautiful.

    8. Media just keeps trimming back salaries and people. Traditional media is going extinct. The show is almost not watchable without the expertise of someone who actually knows what he is talking about.

  2. Four things I'll focus on, from OTA's to Aug 30th player cutdown date for the 9ers 2026 season.
    1) Health & recovery of all veteran players coming off 2025 IR
    2) Player competition & winner for starting L-OG
    3) player competition & winner for starting Safety next to Mustapha
    4) Player competition & winner for both kickoff and punt returner

    1. If only we had a better Oline Purdy would rank #1 in time to throw.

      Delete
    2. These stats can be skewed imo.
If an Olineman gets beat quickly, a mobile qb will likely scramble instead of a sack or a throw away. In contrast the the non mobile qb will maintain a quicker time to throw with a 1.5 second throw away and the mobile one might have a 6 second time to throw both skewing the average.
Specifically, in SF's case, they ranked 29th overall in pass rush win rate, meaning they frequently failed to hold up for 2.5 seconds without allowing a pressure.

      Delete
    3. Agree, Shoup. The first thing I noticed about Purdy when he was a rookie was his maneuverability behind the line of scrimmage and success in avoiding a pass rush. Oline rankings are aided by such QBs, as well as WRs who consistently get open.

      Delete
    4. Of course, Purdy's elite reactionary quickness mitigates pressure.

      Delete
    5. His quickness is probably the reason why his pressure to sack rate is so high but its also why his time to throw numbers are so high. It's not because the Oline is holding up

      Delete
    6. high *meaning he avoided a high percentage of sacks.

    7. SF's OL ranked 3rd in Pass Pro in '25.

    8. You are correct My ai lied to me. Though they were ranked 18 in true pass sets and I confirmed the source on that one. Though below average that's not bottom 5 either.

-Is the Niner's interest in him for real?

-Would the Cardinals trade within the division? I for one wouldn't think so.

  6. Rams receive:
    Myles Garrett

    Browns receive:
    Jared Verse
    2027 first-round pick
    2028 second-round pick
    2029 third-round pick

  7. In hindsight, the 49ers did well to re-up TW. Now, the 49ers Oline will be on high alert with the Rams signing of Garrett. It's going to be fun watching the Rams and 49ers games this season.

    1. What would be fun is if we traded next year's 1st for Verse!😂

  8. I don't believe that the Rams FO would want to do any favors for the 49ers.

    1. Trade next year's 1st to the Browns for Verse once the trade goes through was what I meant.

    2. That would be nice, Razor. Verse would definitely have an extra incentive going up against his former team.

I can't think of a reason why anyone would give up draft picks for:
    1) Aiyuk's massive salary demand.
    2) A player that suffered a devastating torn ACL and MCL and has not played since October 20, 2024,
    3) NFL executives know the 9ers will eventually be forced to release Aiyuk outright, to avoid paying option bonuses.
    4) Aiyuk's no-contact behavior has left executives questioning his dedication and mental readiness to play football.
    5) Another NFL team may consider a trade if Aiyuk agreed to a restructured, team-friendly contract. but his lack of communication, or guarantees of a new deal, taking on his current deal is likely a
    price they're unwilling to pay.
    * Just my opinion, but I believe the 9ers will cut him just before the
    first regular season game
What's your opinion? do you (or anyone), see anyone willing to trade for him?

    1. Thanks GEEP.
Your points make good sense. We may receive some news tomorrow.

    2. He'll either show up or never play another down.

      Delete
    3. SF really doesn't want him to show up through the season to be honest.
If he just shows up even if hes out of shape does "f" all or "gets hurt" SF carries his cap hit and owes his game checks... roughly 1M per game.
In his case he could miss all of the offseason then show up before game day and collect 1m per game.

Truth be told, I think its either a post June cut or a negotiated release where he's given his money over a longer period but his cap numbers significantly decrease. Think Dee Ford.

      Delete
    4. A negotiated release would set a bad precedent. They don't even need to release him. The way the Did Not Report list works, if he doesnt show up to the 49ers HQ, they can place him on the DNR and ALL his 2026 cap hit is erased. Including pro-rated bonuses, and there's no acceleration of his dead cap(13.7m)

They can do this each year of his remaining contract, 2027, 2028, 2029 and would receive all the pro-rated bonus back. Until Aiyuk shows up, the 49ers have a massive incentive to not pursue anything with him. It could clear all their owed cap on him.

      Delete
    5. That's true but that's provided he never shows up and decides to skip the regular season as well
The DNR list is not a one time deal but rather an ongoing seasonal thing. I can't see him just forgoing all the money when he can simply report and suffer "an injury" to collect several million.
Sucks that players can do that tbh but they can.

    6. He just doesn't look like a guy that wants to play football anymore to me.

I am going to be very curious to see which players coming off of injuries that the 49ers will leave behind instead of putting them through 36 hours of flight

    3. I'm not expecting Kittle or Mykel Williams. If Bosa is there day 1 of training camp, I'd imagine he'd make the trip.

  12. I agree coach. I believe that the Rams will now be the odds on favorite to win the SB. But in a long football season anything could happen to derail the odds. Going into the 25 season, I felt the 49ers had a good chance at the SB. But, then the injuries happened.

  16. The Miles Garret trade is interesting.
On one side, they are adding an all time great to a very good Dline.
On the other side they are replacing a great player with a better player not adding one to pair with the great player.
So I wonder how much game planning changes for them or how much better it really makes them?

“He is to me a starter at some point in this league. He’s a starting talent and he was sitting there in the 5th round.”

Chris went to his private workout prior to the draft and came away extremely impressed with what he saw in the offensive lineman.
