49ers UDFA'S

  • WR Wesley Grimes (NC State)
  • S Jalen Stroman (Notre Dame)
  • DL Bryson Eason (Tennessee)
  • DL Mikail Kamara (Indiana)
  • TE Khalil Dinkins (Penn State)
  • DT James Thompson (Illinois)
  • WR Will Pauling (Notre Dame)
  • P Jack Bouwmeester (Texas)
  • LB Kalib Perry (Louisville - Invite)
  • S Duce Chestnut (Syracuse - Invite)
  • Question:
  • Which UDFA(s) do you have making the 53-man roster?
  • I'll go with Pauling and Stroman

  1. Safety and TE for mine appear to be the positions most open for an UDFA to stick on the 53.

But to be different, I am going to say Kamara. Going to be hard for the three DL UDFAs to make the 53, but I see an opportunity for one of them, probably at edge.

49ers like to keep at least 10 DL, and I think there are 9 locks. Osa, Collins, West and Halton at DT, Williams and White at DT/DE, Bosa, Height, Sam O at edge.

Can Kamara beat out Sample? Or do they consider Williams and White to be more true edge guys, and keep another DT?

    1. I've got a hunch Pauling beats out Cowing for PR.

    2. I'll go out on a limb (what else is new), and peg Kamara as the diamond in the rough find.

  2. To make the 53:
TE Khalil Dinkins, due to a $275,000 guaranteed contract and a need for TE depth.
    To make the ps:
EDGE Mikail Kamara, a dominant pass rusher in 2024. Indiana moved him to linebacker/edge hybrid and a run-stopper in 2025
    reducing his pass-rush opportunities.

  3. Let's not forget the $280k they gave to sign Thompson.

  4. Just to show I am not a totally cranky get off of my lawn old man. I really like this class of UDFAs.

    1. I have become, at 55, jokingly, "get off my fake grass lawn!"- kids will do that to you..........

  6. I've seen a few people on X saying the Black pick is a sign of how this team doesn't learn from past mistakes (i.e., taking a RB high, above consensus rank).

I get the concern about drafting a RB this high that most people thought would go later. But to me, this, as well as the James pick last year, are signs they have learned. This isn't a Sermon, TDP, Guerendo type big and fast in a straight line RB. They are now looking at RBs that have skillsets more similar to the RBs they've had success with.

    1. They sure got a shit ton of RBs in this camp. Hasta la bye bye Guerendo.

  7. Did anyone do a shadow draft? I would be curious to see who people would have picked where SF made their selections with who was available?
Doing it now though is a bit tougher because we know where people fell to.
    That said.
my first 4 selections would have been as follows
    1. TJ Parker
    2. Chris Bell
    3. Gennings Dunker
    4. Jalon Kilgore

I would have liked to grab a TE but they went earlier than normal.

    1. I didn't, would have been an interesting exercise though.

Parker would have been my pick at 33 as well. But at 70, really not sure. Might have gone Trey Zuhn or Keiontae Scott. Which means at 90 I'd have gotten the other one anyway, way things panned out. 107 probably would have been Halton tbh. Would have gotten WR after that.

    2. Remind us next year Shoup and we'll do it!

  8. Parker and Dunker were blue chip talent's. The others are good, but subjective imho. I say this, because in my 65 yrs of following football, big name college players coming into the league don't always make it. No doubt the list of these players that failed to make a real impact in the NFL is long.
I'll have a clearer assessment of this draft in a couple of years.

  9. I visited the Oregon Cascades to see my daughter, and to my surprise, her neighbor is Bill Harbaugh, cousin to Jim and John Harbaugh. I’d share the stories, but they’re a bit too long and involved.

  10. Vic Fangio loved Solomon Thomas and likely recommended him to Shanahan.
