Rodney Dangerfield

Time to put some respect on Chris Foerster's name. He's coached us two SB OL's and drafted starting OG's in rounds 3 and 7. People complain we don't invest in our OL enough despite paying Trent Williams record money and paying McKivitz who they developed, and who’s performed quite well through the first 2 weeks:

6th highest pass blocking grade among all tackles: • 81 pass blocking opportunities • 2 pressures allowed • 1 sack allowed • 98.1 pass blocking efficiency • 84.3 pass blocking grade

I maintain Chris Foerster is our modern day version of Bobb McKittrick.

  1. The time from the ball was snapped to Mac Jones getting hit on each of the 3 sacks the 49ers allowed against the Saints:

    Sack 1: 3.95ish seconds

    Sack 2: 4.65ish seconds

    Sack 3: 3.75ish seconds

Mac Jones can't hold the ball for 5 Mississippi's even though the OL makes him feel comfortable.

    1. I agree. But because this was his first start, I could understand some hesitation given that he did not want make a mistake.
Yesterday he needed to keep the 49ers afloat with Purdy out and that's what he did.

    2. Like many, I am impressed by Jones, especially after the press conference, and wouldn't be surprised if he starts next year outside our division. As for his holding the ball on those plays, I don't believe he ever threw the ball away, correct me if I'm wrong, which leads me to believe that at least part of it was a matter of waiting in the pocket for something to open up whereas Purdy might have scampered around to extend those plays with his feet, but of course I don't really know that. I like it, though, that he was so conservative about the ball. Anyway, I'm proud of that young man and wish him the greatest success.

FYI: Jones signed a 2 year contract with the 9ers in March 2025. Unless the 9ers trade him, the contract will keep him with the 9ers through the 2026 season.

    4. Trading him is what I was referring to, as Rourke will be ready. Imagine what we could get in exchange.

  5. How about this for overreacting. One 49ers news source is already using the term "QB controversy" after Jones' game yesterday.
There is NO QB controversy in the 49ers qb room. Purdy is the starter and he will remain starter.
These fuls that come up with these stories are only desperate for attention.

  9. Bartch out for a few with the ankle. He won't get his job back when he returns as I predicted.

    ReplyDelete
  10. What makes you think that Bartch won't get his job back? If Colby can put together some good games while Bartch is out, then yes, Colby remains the starter. But if he gives up qb sacks during this time are you still ok with that?

I really liked Colby's college tape, but the NFL is a different animal. I'll wait to see how he plays before going all in.

    ReplyDelete

    1. If Colby really struggles then yeah, Bartch should come back in. But if Colby plays pretty well, keep him there. Bartch has done nothing to earn keeping that spot ready for him.

    2. From what I saw, Colby is a keeper. I can’t predict the future but he looked like a starter to me.

"I've loved how he's been here so far. I thought he came in that game early -- I think it was late first quarter -- but I thought he did a hell of a job. He made some plays and he'll get better the more he plays but he was ready for the moment and definitely helped us with that win."

  13. Some players, no matter how good they are or can be just do not possess a football body. Numerous examples and Bartch is just another one. Anyone could've seen this coming. His best bet is to remain in a Feliciano role where he comes off the bench. Probably won't be with us moving forward as I suspect he might be going on IR.

    1. I was not a fan of the effectively presumptive starting role they gave Bartch heading into the year. He's not proven anything other than an inability to stay healthy.

Your right razor, 49ers are incredibly lucky to have such a quality OL coach.

In saying that, I'd still love to see them put some higher draft capital into the position. Nothing crazy needed, but man, imagine this OL with a dominant center. Brendel has been good so far this year, back to his best, but a top center would unlock so much. And at some point they do need a succession plan for TW.

My thoughts exactly. They need to draft/acquire a C and swing T who can eventually step in for TW.

Rams can win as Philly's strength is front four while Rams haven't been running the ball well anyhow- perhaps they go spread and expose Philly's weakness (secondary)- and make Hurts beat them w his arm......... we shall see- but, more concerned w beating AZ- apparently, Cardinals have some issues in their secondary.

    2. The Rams gave Philly headaches in the their playoff game. If not for their turnovers tha Rams may have had a chance at beating the Eagles. But another minus for the Rams is that they couldn't stop Barkley.

    3. Rams D is good. They have only allowed one TD in 2 games so far.

Eagles will be at Home and it is a 10 AM East coast start which generally west coast teams struggle with. So should be a good game.

But with all the injuries the 9ers have experience the past 2 years, I don't feel bad seeing the Rams CB Ahkello Witherspoon placed on

All the stunts and twists they ran all game had the Saints in a 3/2 slide with Huff's side drawing two-man protection. With the OT playing tighter expecting the stunt, Huff made him pay. I can't overstate how important this element is to the success upfront.

If you get a chance, check out Bryce Foster, Center Kansas and give me your opinion of him. I list him as a mid 4th Rd. 2026 draft pick.
Note: He has played college football since his freshman year, but has focused on shot put, not football. With a year of pro
coaching I believe he could be a starting Center.
^ Foster, is known for his impressive size, strength, and athleticism, balanced by areas needing refinement. He has
short arms, limiting to playing NFL Center.

    1. He very well could be, however there has been lots of opportunity, Niners just never seem to draft a top-rated center or any center that I can think of in a great many years.

  26. Do the 49ers believe their eventual successor at center is on the roster? — Greg C.

Keep an eye on rookie Drew Moss. He was a quick learner this summer at guard. He seems like a strong candidate to at least compete at center in the future.

“He’s very, very strong,” offensive line coach Chris Foerster said of Moss last month. “He gets his hands on people; he really does handle them. He’s not overmatched at all. He’s got good quickness. He doesn’t have great range — he’s not a long guy, he’s not long-levered, things like that. So sometimes as a guard, you can get in some trouble.

“He’s gonna play center, which isn’t something he’s done a lot of. It’s really hard in this offense, what we do, all the movements, the shifts and everything. It takes some guys time to get a hold of that. The physical traits lead to someone I think has a future at center and possibly guard.”

While the 9er D has been good against Seattle and Saints, I'll second scooters comment, "The defense will face sterner tests."
The next 4 games VS the Cardinals, Jax, Rams and TB will give us a much clearer insight into how good the 9er D is.
The 9ers should beat Arizona at home, but beating the Rams
and TB on the road will, IMO, be the litmus test for both the
      defense and the offense.
The good new is, if the 9ers beat Arizona, the Rams and TB, they will be the division leader and have a leg up to make it to the playoffs.

      Delete
  29. I'm not on that laughed at your top 10 D rating. But, I will not overreact or take a victory lap (not saying you are doing this) after two games. But, I did say the young players will get better with more games played. M. Williams and Al Collins are already showing flashes and although not a rookie, Winters has been ball'n out. Add this to established stars like Bosa and Warner, then a top 10 throughout the season looks like a strong possibility.

  30. Mustapha may also help- I haven't seen a review of Pinnock's performance, but also can't recall seeing him in on too many tackles either........ I think Williams has played great, hard to assess West/Collins and I think Stout has held up pretty well while being challenged.
