Kevin Givens and Valdez Takes?

Sebastian Valdez is a DT prospect in the 2025 draft class who's odds of making the roster just went up with the news Kevin Givens will be out awhile with a peck injury. Expect him to go on IR. As you can see Valdez scored a 9.22 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 145 out of 1847 DT from 1987 to 2025.

➖6.3 sacks/season (best in the class) ➖35 tackles/season (2nd best in the class) ➖60th percentile+ in both pass rush and run production

  1. - Rookie DT Alfred Collins is showing some signs of growth in the pass rush drills, at least attempting some things other than straight power. Collins had a nice win today against Drake Nugent in which his pad level was noticeably lower, he got underneath the much smaller Nugent and drove him back quickly. That will be a constant thing to monitor for Collins because he's so big but for now, progress.

  2. Unless Collins shows-out in the preseason games, it looks like rookies Williams and West will get the bulk of the snaps this season. Collins' development may be a slow process, but hopefully the 49ers patience is rewarded sooner than later.

    1. Though Collins has started slow, I still think he will be a significant factor this year.
He will eat up space and occupy double teams which will benefit Bosa and Huff.

    2. Collins is in front of West in the rotation.

    3. If the season started today, West would get more playing time over Collins.

    4. I suspect Collins will eat double teams on 1st/2nd and West will come in next to Mykel Williams as the 3t on 3rd downs,

    5. As I said the other day, Collins greatest value to this team is clogging rushing lanes, and he can likely do that from day 1. Anything they get from him as a pass rusher is a bonus.

  3. I want to see how Valdez looks in the preseason. Krueger has been singing his praise from Day 1.

  4. Good props from D. Lombardi as well. Valdez came in to TC with minimal acclaim. Mug, I agree, he's got to show-out in preseason.

  5. KNBR host: “I’m looking at Mykel Williams, Alfred Collins, Upton Stout, CJ West, and Nick Martin. They all seem like they have that dawg. Who’s the biggest dawg in the shed among that group?”

Fred Warner: “Right now the guy sticking out the most is Upton Stout. Probably the smallest dawg in the fight, with the biggest dawg in here (taps his heart). I love watching Upton and the way he competes at the nickel position… The guy has IT.”

  6. Alfred Collins improving everyday. Won a couple 1-on-1 reps displaying good leverage off the snap. He's learning how to not just depend on his strength. Arrows up.

  7. I haven't been around but my two sense worth is this draft class is going to be very good. I see the defense improving by leaps and bounds.

    1. Going from Sorento to Saleh should be the difference maker along with this draft class. Saleh also has Gus Bradley to lean on. I still think it'll end up being top 10 with Bosa breaking Aldon Smith's sack record and earning his 2nd DPOY award.

  8. Just as I suspected. Saleh going crazy today with stunts and blitzes.

  9. CJ West is out there with the first team during team drills.🔥

  10. Robert Saleh says the 49ers may have up to 8 new starters on defense.

  11. LB Fred Warner on Kyle Shanahan:

“I've always said it's not a matter of if, but when — winning that ring.”

“I've never been in a Bill Belichick meeting, but the way that Kyle breaks down the tape in our meetings — I feel like it has to be similar.”

  12. Worth noting that Willis has been MUCH more involved in the passing game this camp than either of his previous two.

  13. Collins had some other, better reps against Matt Hennessy, Zack Johnson and Drake Nugent. Collins is still working on pad level and getting to moves other than bull rush but he's starting to find ways to disengage. It seems like he's still thinking his way through how to do that so it happens a bit slower but it's at least starting to happen. And again, pass rush productivity from Collins will likely be viewed as a bonus if he does his job against the run.

  14. Collins may turn out to a great 49er once he "get's it." I'm pulling for him.

  15. The 9ers biggest opponent, prior to the Bronco pre season game, are injuries.....
Dailey changes to the depth chart resembles a roulette wheel.
