The 49ers are making their stance clear on Trent Williams: San Francisco is willing to guarantee roughly $36M over the next two years — including about $24M in 2026, per Jason LaCanfora. Sounds like a marriage commitment to me for Brock Purdy’s blindside. Likely guarantees OL is off the table at 27.
When the 49ers bring in five or more players at the same position, (WR) for 30 visits, you can bet your last dollar that they're drafting one.

DeleteI keep vacillating between edge/ olb type and iDL. To me, both are needs, even though they drafted 2 iDL last year and traded for Osa.
DeleteI think if they had their choice of realistic options at 27, edge/ olb would be the pick.
Also, I don't think they'll go a DPR as such. Whoever they take at edge I think they'll want them to be able to play as a stand up OLB/ DE in a 5-man front, which means an ability to also go out and cover the flat sometimes.
I would think Parker or Howell would be two they'd likely have strong interest in at 27.

DeleteOne sneaky guy I've mentioned before and am not ready to quit on is Anthony Hill Jr. Not a true edge player, but a good blitzer that has the size and athletic traits to play the on ball SAM and backup Greenlaw at WILL.

The most explosive target is KC. The most easiest target (to hit) is Boston because of his size. Cooper offers a little bit of both, but he may be gone before 27.

Bell is something of a polarising prospect. Some people love him, some don't like him much at all - pretty wide variance.
DeleteBrazzell is a bit the same.
Going to be interesting to see where some of these guys go.
Brazzell is a bit of an enigma for me. Among the many noted WRs that have been mentioned here, he falls under the boom or bust category for me. His length and weight gives me pause.

DeleteI'm not a fan of Lomu, but I get why he'll be a first rounder. Ssme with Freeling, Miller and Iheanachor. There's only so many dudes that have that sort of athleticism at that sort of size.

But like razor, I think these guys will go quick. 49ers might not get a shot at any of them.
Maybe I'm old and have this tendency to be suspicious a lot more these days then I should. Another draftnik put out his mock draft yesterday and had the 49ers going with Lomu with 27. He is just one of many mock draft talking heads that have Lomu at 27.

The Steelers have given A. Rodgers an ultimatum. Sign before the draft or goodbye. If Rodgers doesn't sign is there a chance that the Steelers might trade their 1st round pick and Mason Rudolph for Mac Jones and Aiyuk?

Fringe first-rounders: Blake Miller, Caleb Lomu, Emmanuel Pregnon, Keylan Rutledge.
I like Blake Miller and Iheanachor. Miller is more polished. But, Iheanachor has a higher ceiling when considering his late football start.

ReplyDeleteWhen looking at the WR's in this draft I think it's imperative to focus on the ones who will get after it as a run blocker in an outside zone scheme.

Kittle, Farrell and Tonges are pretty much locks. I doubt they carry more than that unless Kittle isn't ready. Might be a position for an UDFA rather than a draft pick but who knows?
DeleteQuarters rates have become stagnant across the NFL as more teams adopt Fangio-like rotations (8/Stuff) and play Weak Rotation Cover 3 from a 2-High shell. Consistently stops 12p 2x2 formations.
