Alfred Collins

The 2nd Round pick of the San Francisco 49ers has yet to sign. Just two 2nd Rounders have, 33 and 34 respectively AND with full guarantees. First time this has ever happened as far as I can remember. I'm anxious to see him out there but he's one of 30 yet to sign so its not anything to worry about. I think he has a chance to be the most impactful rookie from this class.

  1. * Collins' ability to stop the run should help solidify the defensive front 4. He can line up at various positions on the D-line, making him a valuable rotational piece in the 9ers' scheme.
    * Primarily known for his ability to stop the run, Collins also has the potential to develop into a productive pass rusher and generate pressure on the QB.
    * Collins is still unsigned and learning the 9ers' defensive scheme. He'll need time to adjust, especially given his recent calf injury.

    1. From Wikipedia: He played both offensive and defensive tackle, winning All-Pro honors at both positions -- he played both offensie and defensive tackle his first three years!! He was selected to the All-NFL team six times: two years on offense and four years on defense. He was selected as the defensive tackle on the NFL 50th Anniversary All Time Team

  7. The Lenoir arrest, from what the news is reporting, does not sound like the police had "PROBABLE CAUSE" to make an arrest, as no
    crime had been committed.
    * "Los Angeles police said they saw multiple double-parked cars blocking traffic at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday. They said a suspect “appearing to conceal contraband” threw the keys to one of the cars to Lenoir, who refused to give them to officers.
Officers eventually recovered a gun and narcotics in one of the cars. Lenoir, 25, was arrested and booked on a charge of delaying and resisting a peace officer.

Unless it was the friends parked car the police recovered a gun and narcotics in, the police likely did not have probable cause of a crime, or "Exigent circumstances," to search the car without a warrant.
And it does NOT SAY Lenoir was asked, or refused, to move the car.
If he did, then the police would have probable cause of a crime.
    * (Asking Leoir to move a double-parked car is likely a lawful order, especially if it's obstructing traffic or creating a hazard.)
Other than giving the owner of the car a ticket for being double parked, the police had no reason to believe there was any crime
committed and I suspect a good lawyer can get the arrest thrown out of court?

  8. I remember purchasing a 69 Chevy Malibu when I was about 21. A couple of cousins wanted to see if my car was faster than theirs. Of course we jumped on the freeway and were going 15 to 20 miles over the speed limit. When the CHP pulled me over, I asked him why he choose me. He said, "I guess you were the lucky one." Moral of the story (at least in my case), don't put yourself in a bad position.

Absolutely! Hopefully for Lenoir, it's a learning experience and he'll realize 25 year old Marcus Cunningham is NOT his friend. (Cunningham, was charged with possession of a firearm for the
    gun in his car)!
If Lenoir is lucky, the DA will not charge him with a crime. If he is
charged, it will likely be a misdemeanor and he'll have to pay a fine and possibly be required to do public service?

    1. One injury at OT drops them to the bottom 10.

      Delete
    2. You could probably say that about every team in the league.

      Delete
    3. I think that an injury at OT would drop the 49ers about 12 to 15 spots to some where around #27 to #30. It might effect all teams the same but teams that start out in the top 10 don't end up being as bad as the 9ers would

    4. Looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out. I predict we'll have a top 5 rushing OL when its all said and done. That's with Trent missing 3 games due to an injury.

  15. Razor / OldCoach / Open question for the blog:
Should the 9er FO try to sign McKivitz to an extension?
    * McKivitz’s contract ends after the 2025 season, and the 9ers don’t want to replace both OT's at the same time and unfortunately, Jaylon Moore departed the 49ers to the tune of a three-year, $45 million deal in 2025 free agency. So is giving McKivitz a small extension the wise thing to do? Maybe extend him for 1 or 2 years?
    * While he is NOT a great OT (he ranked 52nd out of 66 qualifying OT's, with an 85.9% pass block win rate in 2024). He has improved the past couple of seasons and an extension would give the 9ers some offensive line stability.

    1. I believe drafting/signing a quality center is the #1 O line need for the 49ers. # 2 is drafting a eventual replacement for T. Williams who would start out as the swing OT. So signing McKivitz to a 2 to 3 year extension I believe would be a smart move. The same way this years draft was all about restocking the D line I see next years draft being all about restocking the O line

  16. McKivitz with another good year will leave in F/A for $20M APY. We don't pay OG's or RT's. Now could they extend Burford if he wins the Swing OT job and then have him compete for RT next year with draft pick(s)? You bet and its something I've repeated all spring and summer.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm pretty much in agreement all of you. McKivitz is a good Olinemen. But I believe that he will need to elevate his game this season in order to qualify for a nice extension. Also, the 49ers will likely draft heavy on the Oline in 2026 which

    ReplyDelete
  18. Aghh! Hit the wrong button. Next year's draft may better define McKivitz's future unless he elevates his play this season giving the 49ers no choice but to sign him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Maybe I didn't make my question clear?
My question should have said: Should the 9ers try to sign McKivitz to an extension for $10 - $12 Mil NOW, before he's eligible to be a free agent and ~$20 Mil P/Y by signing with another team?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. McKivitz won't give them any discounts now that he's established his stock and on the precipice of a big payday. He's coming off a swing OT contract extension where the 49ers were proactive and bet on his upside. They can do the same thing with Burford.

    2. I'm guessing SF has his replacement on the Roster.
Oddly enough he might have been SF's best lineman last year when taking into account Trent Williams injuries. He's not great but he is a plus blocker in the run game, doesnt make many mental mistakes and loses slowly. That will get you a long way in todays NFL.
That is a long way of saying I think he has priced himself out of SF's market, (even when they have the cash as that is where they typically choose to save money.)

    3. Shoup, they've yet to pay top money for an OG or a RT.
